Got a great deal on tires today and was told by a friend who knows someone who knows someone who knows..... anyway.

Should I get my factory steel rims split and have a 2'' band added so they are nearly 8'' wide. I can have this done very cheaply. Has anyone ever heard of this or is my friend a nut. Seems like it would be difficult to have them balanced and such???

The tires are BFG A/T 32*11.50r15

I dont think I necessarily trust that. Seems like it would be very difficult to eventually balance and would take great skill to perform.

Why not get new rims, unless you're loving the stock look?

This would only cost 50 bucks and is going to be done by a guy that CNC's wheels and has been in the buisness for "longer than I've been alive".

Also, I just got those cool azz old skool center caps for the rear wheels and really want to keep them. I'm very broke. and this seems like a good way to deal with the situation.

What was the final verdict on running the 11.50 wide tires on 6" wide rim (or whatever the factory size is?

I would just run the wheels you have now....I did it for years and had no problems...the tire guys might tell you otherwise though...how much time do you spend aired down??? That would be my only concern...if it mainly a DD no worries in my mind....but again this is my opinioin and you know what people say about those:)

I think stock is 7" wide, and 11.5 are fine with the stock wheels.....I've seen plenty of pictures of 12.50 in stockers......I run 32X11.5X15 on 15X8 rims! :grinpimp: :grinpimp:

The stock rims are 15x6" so I doubt any shops would mount 32x 11.5 on if they would even fit. If you are going to stay with stock tires then go with 31x10.5 or 33x10.5 if you have a lift. You can keep your center cap with other wheels. I keep my rear and front chrome caps on my new wheels.

I wouldn't spend the money to have the wheels widened. I would save up if you want to go bigger and wider for some 15x8 wheels first. You get a bigger tire you want some strong wheels. The stock ones are strong but how do you know they will be as strong or stronger after they are widened.

Goodluck.

I ran 32x12.5 BFG MT's on my truck for years after replacing the 31x12.5 AT's that were on my truck ..... Guess it just depends on teh tire place...

Ah yes, the centercaps. I do like mine too.

I didn't know the center caps were so popular...I have some decent ones collecting cobwebs.

I run 33x12.5 on the stock rims. No issues at all. I was told by a few folks that they are the poorman's beadlock when aired down. Also talked with my buddy that owns a shop and is certified up the wazoo... he said it is not an issue.

These are the best center caps for a stock rims on a 60... and notice the stock rims and 10.50 MTRs...

MMMMMmmmmm. Full Float... definitely the best rear wheel ornamentation. 31" MTRs I'm guessing, since last time I looked GY didn't make a 33x10.5?

FWIW, I run 33 10.50 on a stock rim. Instead of going to a big name shop to mount your tires, go to a little independent place, they're usually more willing to make exceptions and mount a wide tire on a narrow rim.
