Howdy! This is my first post. I've been lurking for a while, but haven't found what I've been looking for.

I live in Okinawa, Japan and picked up a nice clean '91 HZJ77 a few months ago from an auction up on the Mainland. I've got a laundry list of projects, both short and long term that I'm working on. I'm headed to Australia next week on business and plan to pick up a few goodies, but the lack of 77's outside of Japan and my lack of Cruiser knowledge leave me with questions mainly: is the Aussie HZJ75 Troopy comparable to the HZJ77? I'm looking at an off-the shelf exhaust, specifically from Redback and I'm curious about the compatibility between the 75's with the long wheel base and the 77. Am I way off base? Thanks.

Here's the truck:
1991 HZJ77 ZX with Toyota factory lockers, 285,000 km, Pro Comp lift, 31" BFG A/T's (these came on her from the auction in Nagoya and are just about shot)

@divemedic and @NanaMaru can probably assist you with info.
.....and welcome to 'MUD.
.....and for clarification the HZJ75 (Troopy) is a giant, shoe box shaped behemoth (think Blue Bird school bus) while the 77 Series is a sleek, stylish, sexy machine.

The exhausts will be different, the 75 has a longer wheelbase.

I'd get an exhaust custom made, then you can be sure it will have the proper clearance both for offroading and any future planned accessories/mods eg auxilliary fuel tank, coil coversion ect.

The VDJ76 is common here, from the firewall back it's essentially a xxJ77 body with a different dash. You might find some accessories from one of those that will fit.

Welcome!

I think I saw you the other day going through gate 1 of kadena. I was in the dark grey 77.

I recommend getting stock replacement exhaust if you need to fix rusted out pipes for jci. Wait till you get to the states and do a custom job, just my $.02.

For other parts, there are several places to go, the dealer and a third party Toyota parts shop near kadena circle.

For tires, I'd go to the little tire shop that is left out of gate 1, next to the family mart. Big fat dude who is really cool and can get most tires for a reasonable price. @NanaMaru knows more about tire buying.

To really take advantage, you need to start getting your hair cut a T-Snip. It's on 23 near the Starbucks. Stand alone building/house. Look for a 40 series on 38's and a super nice custom chopper in the store. To owner's name is Takeji. He is on vacation now, but will be back after golden week.

Feel free to pm me.

Lastly, go register your truck on the registry sticky if you find some time.

Only one that I know of. It's maintained by base heritage

Yup, that was me! Thanks so much for the info! I know the tire shop you're talking about, and I've got a pretty good idea where the Toyota parts shop is. The exhaust is fine for now, but I had to get creative on the initial JCI inspection. I'll check out T-Snip too... it's about time for a trim.

I bought an oem down pipe from the dealer. It was much cheaper then I expected. I imagine the rest of the parts wouldn't be too bad also. Out of habit I always check the dealer first, they are cheaper then the place by kadena circle. I go to the t-up Toyota dealer on 329.
