Alright guys here's a video. This was a 1st gear to 4th gear pull at wide open throttle. 100%. Floored. That's all shes got! It wont even rev above 2000 rpm.

ATF is full. Checked it hot. Engine running.

Adjusted both throttle cables properly according to the manual ozcruiser supplied (thanks!!)

Any ideas?

I would replace the fuel filter if it hasn't already been done and also check the air filter for any blockage. It sounds like the fuel filter is full of crap to me

Have you had a look under the right hand seat on the chassis rail for a sediment/water type filter. If your truck has one fitted these can fill with water and crap and starve the engine off fuel. :)

i will definitely check that tomorrow. I thought there was only one fuel filter/water separator.

I really need to get to the bottom of the tranny issue though. Why wont it rev past 2000 rpm? If i put the tranny in 2nd gear it revs as high as it wants. If i leave overdrive off it keeps revving in 3rd too. Obviously I keep it well away from redline but it has no problem reaching 3500 rpm.

the OD off light continues to flash indicating a fault but how do i check it? paperclip method isnt working.

OK guys! hopefully i have made a discovery.

I was super determined tonight after work to get on this problem. I got my Google on and found out that i was doing the paperclip test wrong when checking the cause of the flashing "OD OFF" light issue.

I had read in another thread that i was supposed to connect E1 and TE1

infact this is WRONG and i am supposed to connect TT and E1! BOOM it started flashing me the code. So the code is 41 which is Throttle position sensor. This basically explains every single problem i am having.

Now i have to test the sensor! wish me luck!

now i just have to find the part. Local dealer is a bunch of dickheads and are completely unwilling to help. trying amayama.com but no word yet. i found a used one but i would rather have a new one if its not much more money.

Glad you seem to have found the issue. Otherwise I was going to say that it's behaving the same way my rat-rod does when the electronic torque converter lockup switch won't unlock.

you guys and your sensors.....

For what its worth i can easily go 120km on flats, hills are rough, but can hold 80-100, mountains are 4th gear 80 or if steeper 3rd gear 60. NA, non turbo manual. The only time i blew smoke was up in Colorado between denver and vail on I 70.

If you are still blowing smoke, might need to clock down on the fuel pump a few turns.

Thats my plan. For now, here is a video of the smoke lol. Trying to source a TPS is proving to be challenging. Amayama cant get it. I found one new on ebay from spain so maybe that will have to do.

Update:

When i bought the truck it had a flashing "Overdrive off" light. The paperclip diagnostic tool revealed a #42 fault code which at the time i thought was Throttle position sensor which i got from a chart someone posted here on mud. Long story short i put a new TPS in it and the problem remained which lead me to investigate further. Got a copy of the service manual only to find out that code 42 is NOT TPS but VSS (vehicle speed sensor)... fml there goes $190.

Did some research and found out the VSS is located in the gauge cluster and its cable driven. it basically has 4 contacts and for each revolution of the cable the VSS is triggered 4 times. Confirmed with multimeter... The VSS works. The speedo works and the Odometer works. The cable is fine.

Anyone had this issue before? Does anyone have a full wiring diagram of the VSS circuit so i can further diagnose?

Also, I saw these two white resistors and decided to test them. One says 150(ohm)K and the other is 68(ohm)K . I'm not great with components but does that mean they are supposed to be 150/68 KiloOhms? because they read 107.4 ohms and 59.0 ohms.
