hzj75 ute , clutch or gearbox broken??? with some pics
hi guys
today while taking off from a stop sign in my ute i got a loud BANG which sounded like it came from the gearbox / clutch area it was just as it loaded up and i began to take off then quite a violent bang . and to make it worse i had to get towed home by a nissan
i did notice one thing over the past week when coming to a stop like rolling along and push the clutch in and stop sometimes on the odd occasion would give a "clunk" from the gearbox / clutch area and seemed to be getting slighly more frequent i though it may be drive shaft clunk and was goin to grease it untill this happened
now ive had a bit of a look and this is what ive come up with so far anymore suggestions / things to check out would be helpfull.
with the car running you can select all gears WITHOUT pushing the clutch in but no drive engages, tail shaft doesnt spin and car does'nt move. a very slight grind as u run the shifter thru each gear can be felt ( like if you dont push the clutch in far enough and shift)
pedal feels fine, master / slave work , axle caps are still on.
my guess is the clutch ?? i really hope its not the box or input shaft ( you wouldnt feel the gears running if the input shaft had snapped right ? plus just taking off surely wouldnt do it ?)
could it be possible the clutch has lost all clamping pressure or a broken disk and im not up for a new gearbox yet

I might get a chance to drop the box this weekend and have a look , would be nice to pin point what's self destructed has anyone else had a clutch/ gearbox let go like this I'm really sus on the clutch it was shuddering quite a bit and slipping a bit I think the turbo may have killed it lol. I've had a clutch let go before in another vehicle was a very similar feeling accept it was stuck in 2nd gear
