hzj75 steering slop in box -fixable?

great weekend spent slowly stripping the big girl (car that is!)
there is a bit of slop in the steering - about an inch move in steering wheel before the pitman turns - bit of play in the steering shaft uni's but not bad -the slop appears to be in the box - can you adjust this (screw held by bolt on top of box) ?
If not are these boxes repairable or is it easier/simpler just to try and get an exchange box?

Yes you can take out the slop.. Adjuster is on top, from memory a jamb nut locking a flat slot screw...

Exchange boxes are not cheap,around $700-800 last time I asked and its hard to tell as to what standard they have been repaired.

But usually all it takes is a twist of the adjustment screw to get rid of the slop.
I would recommend you follow the procedure in the manual rather that just tightening it blindly.
Done right it wll last the life of the vehicle.
