Did you have to machine the front plate to accept the seal? I was under the impression the vacuum front transfer shaft has a smaller diameter than the manual shift. The seal doesn't seem to fit the shaft well, LOL. Consider a different seal? Or if you use the shaft from a manual transfer, you might even be able to use the factory shifter (from a manual transfer of course)

Great to see the PS box clears the starter. Is the engine where you want it to be?

I am hoping it is exactly where it will stay, we did a ton of measuring twice and making a drawing with measurements.

so far it seems too good to be true, along with the seal fitting in the transfercase shifter shaft area. I went through some rebuild boxes and found this seal and it ft?????

We cannot use the factory shift mechanism due to the short transfercase shaft for 2H and 4H. Hoping to have it fabbed up in a couple short hours using a old T case shifter parts from a one piece case.
 
Got Body clearance with inch lift although still fairly tight and I do expect to modify the tunnel cover.

I could go 2 inchs and be done with it, just worried a two inch body lift will look goofy, any opinions?

We have had a good run of luck it also is with the PTO, the darn thing looks to fit perfect. Hard to believe the drive line length is the same. The factory 45 series pillow block is not mounted and will not be needed, because the three part shaft has enough support.

It is looking like we will have to build brackets for the two pillow blocks off the frame and work very nicely.

I am very happy and will shoot photos of the new motor mounts, my new guy seems to have a good knack for fabricating.

We pulled that PTO shaft off a BJ71 IIRC.. Greg and I figured you would have the most options with the 3 piece J7 shaft.. Glad it is coming to gether smoothly. Keep the pics coming.. that 45 is going to be AWESOME!

Not a lot completed today, mostly engine and transmission mounts.

On the positive I recieved some information from Sheldon and ended up finding out some very interesting stuff. The starter motor off a mini truck will bolt up to the 1HZ starter housing, gear and mounts slightly different on mini truck.

Alternator off a older model Supra bolts up and has the exact same plug but the terminal on the 1HZ is located at 12 oclock and on the Supra alt is more like 9 oclock.

We turned our 1000+ dollar bill of new alternations and starters into a 240.00 dollar bill and thats Canuck bucks.

Are you sure a 22R starter will work? They're dime a dozen.

What is the vertical piece welded to the crossmember?

Yep, the alternator is a 1987 and I think you can get the 1985 Supra with the exact same double pully instead of the surpentine.

Plate steel 3/8

I wanted a little more strength, I should throw in a couple small guessets but its really not necessary.
 
Wiring harness in, engine mounts and tranny plus engine in.

Working on transfercase shifter linkage, machined out some tube and bent some flat stock.

The mini truck motor fit and worked fine.
 
Linkage 99% done and working on PTO mounts for drive shaft. New bumper is being bent up at the local steel shop outa 1/4 plate.

If I have time I will write something up on the building of the linkage.

We decide to make the detent ball on the shifter linkage itself rather than open up transfercase, let you know how it works out.
 
Sweet. Where did you mount the detent? Does the vacuum transfer not have a detent on the housing?

Thats right Dave, no detent on the vacume shift.

However we are finding most everything can be overcome and its good to have a second brain in the shop for a different and half my age opinion.

The detent is going to be mounted on the shifter rod off the side of the H55, we are finding the throw so short thier that we may have to use two seperat detent balls.

Other options is a detent ball in the 2WD postion and a spring to hold it in 4WD.

To mention we also have the use of 2WD Low, kinda neat. Mind you we could all have that with the manual shift if we removed the plate that holds it from moving into that positiion.
 
No real luck with the detent ball due too the short throw, we used a waffle washer which exerts quite a bit of friction and will give it a try.


-Body on with 1 inch body lift which gave us a great deal of clearance for the engine and tranny.
-PTO brakets made, need to shorten front part of PTO drive shaft as it was 2 inches too long.
-Front bumper being bent out of 1/4 plate and then mounted
-Sand blast and paint PTO
-Axles relengthened, drilled front and rear ouput flanges


Things for next week.
-Wiring
-Finish paint on doors and roof.
-Install all glass
-Build seat base for new Celica or Supra buckets
-Cut and sleeve steering column due to body lift
-Fabricate bracket for throttle linkage
-Wire Glow plugs with timer

And prolly a bunch of other stuff I forgot.
 
Slow tedious work, wiring, fuel system, throttle linkage(used our typical 60 series linkage), should be running on Monday.

Batteries dead in digi camera, get a couple shots this afternoon.
 
Way to go Rob. Sure hope mine looks that good when you're done with her.
