Thanks TB, were trying to kick in high gear and get back onto your 60.

Battery trays, Fuel filter, wirring batteries and ignition.

I NEED a fuel filter like that one.

Where can I get one at?

TB

We have them up here in the local auto parts store "Lordco".

I have heard said the CAT filters are high quality, never seen them for sale around here????

I have an extra one of those I could sell you... $50. The filter's new.

Thats a good deal, PM Mikey T..... TB and get that thing sent to me.

Okay, its ALIVE..............................

First crank no glows and it started smooth, must be the high compression?????

Batteries installed, any feelings on the air cleaner??????????

Elbow with big K&N filter or install factory 60 series canister with some fab work???

The BJ40s and 45s came with canister the same as the BJ60.

I would go with the 40/60 series filter housing as you are keeping most of her already Toyota . But it may be a tight squeeze . The large factory filter does a great job and would look tidy under the hood . What kind of batteries you running there ?
Got the 62 back on the road but had to have the precups machined because the head had to be milled and they were pertruding to far .

Gotta agree here...K&N's pass more dirt than quality paper filters, and the stock filter is a good big one, which is not going to restrict flow. I'd only use a K&N as a prefilter, or on a race motor.

K&N filters ARE paper!

Toyota TRD filters are FOAM!

bzzzt!

K&N are cotton gauze, oiled. TRD and other oiled foam filters, like K&N gauze filters, are racing-oriented, high flow filters that pass more dirt than paper filters...they work very well at what they are designed to do, which is to flow more air than equivalently sized paper filters. Oiled foam is more effective at removing dirt that oiled gauze, in most cases. My opinion is that for protecting an expensive engine, especially in dirty environments, you can't beat quality paper filters, especially when they're as large as the OEM Toyota. The racing filter companies have very effective marketing departments. You won't see oiled gauze or foam filters on heavy duty trucks or off-road equipment, except as cleanable pre-filters.

Feel free to demonstrate otherwise, but that's what my research has shown me...

Sounds good, I just pulled in two minutes ago and tomorrow will get onto the the credit for shipping plus have those extra parts shipped back.

Running Cosco batteries with 650 cold cranking amps, pretty inexpensive with good warranties.

Sounds like you did your homework, I guess it will be the good old factory paper filter. Looking for a older BJ40/42 filter housing which will bolt to the fender. Otherwise we will have to cut up the mounts on the 60 series to make it work.

I guess ya'll have not seen this thread that shows a Toyota paper filter, Napa Paper, TRD oiled, K&N oiled, and Factory washable paper...

https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=21694

I have the TRD filter in my BJ74, and it looks to me to be a gauze/oil combination.

The re-usable paper filter was interesting. Showed up in a canister that was ordered to work with the factory 7* series snorkle. Gave the number to Toyota, and it showed as available...

Rob, we have a pile of filter housings (most will be 6* and 7* series) in the shop. Stop by for that front clip when you are driving back from Pismo and sort through the pile...

BTW, I love that 45...I wish, and perhaps one day....I would do the exact same color/engine combo.

glow timer

Rob,

what are you using for a glow plug timer? can you explain how it will work?

tanks.

yep, got no personal experience with TRD filters, so won't pretend to know how they're constructed other than Tom's description, but I've had K&N and UNI oiled foam on motorcycles off and on for 30 years, and believed the marketing crap myself. no question they flow more air, and K&N's actual advantage is they flow much more air when really dirty (especially dusty dirt), so they will continue to flow and filter when racing in Baja. my opinion (and it's really just that) and plan is to run a cyclonic pre-filter to keep as much dirt as possible from getting to my big honking OEM Toyota paper filter...if I was in the desert, I might run a big conical K&N in a housing ahead of the paper, but that sure would take a lot of room. look at big truck filters for inspiration ;-). but don't take my word for it...empirical info is out there...

Thanks Greg, maybe you will at least get a test spin in it??

To bad you and Sheldon could not make the Pismo meet, always next year.

so... what kind of glow-plug timer are you using? aftermarket? or adapting something from another truck?

Very slow progress, all our projects are first timers.

The customer wanted a colour to match roof, here it is and not my favourite.

Also to mention we will be building the exhaust system 3 inch from front to back ou fo mandrels.
