Was scrounging around on eBay and came across this (don't worry it's not a TUT link :D ). What're the thoughts on using Dodge components for a Hydroboost conversion? I'm not sure if those fittings on the hydro pressure lines would be easier or harder to make a hose for, but it does look interesting. I also wonder what that third line on the hydroboost is for...

Runs off your PS pump, so if you kill the engine you have 1 stop remaining.

The 460 I got for my 56 F100 had it so I used it. No problems except the steering is overboosted for my tastes (Saginaw box), so I bought a pressure regulator. Still on the shelf, though.

Bosch produces the boost units themselves for chevy/ford/dodge. The housing a bit different, and it is rotated counter-clockwise compared to the astro unit. Is that the size bore you want?

Edit: it also looks longer than my astro unit, and has a spacer between the HB unit and M/C to accomodate for the rotation. Why? For dodge to be different? Who knows.

Edit #2: the place that made my lines cut off the threaded/farelled fittings where I wanted them and welded hose fittings directly on to the end that clamped onto the hose lines. It made no difference what fitting it was what since it was cut.

Well I'm mainly just curious about the Dodge setup Vs. the GM parts that are more commonly used for HB conversions. I'm sure there's a reason, but I've never even seen Dodge HB components mentioned.

I guess the GM units are just so much more common and cheaper to come by. GM used them lots more vehicles. I went to Pik-N-Pull and found units on various mid 80's GM large cars like Cadillac and Buicks. I pulled mine off an 85 Caprice Estate station wagon. It's the exact same hydroboost unit that's on my GMC one ton wrecker.

Be different; more power to ya. :flipoff2:

Realistically, I'd probably mosey down to Spauldings and measure how long the setup is in different vehicles. They might look at you funny though.

Yeah I figured I'd take a weekend and go there and Pull N' Save to see what all I can get for this and the rear disc conversion. Gonna be some good times ahead :D

WHy do you want hydroboost?

It is novel but the stock system works very well with minor adjustments..

My booster is going out, and since I plan to put in a diesel, it makes sense to take the opportunity to convert instead of spending the money on a rebuilt vacuum booster.

Fair enough..
