I am trying to get my parts together for hydro assist and I am looking at a KRC pump with an attached reservoir. Do you think there will be enough volume with the tank in this link? Product - KRC 50010 100 I was also looking at their detached reservoirs and they seem to be bigger, but the added hassle of trying to find somewhere to bolt another accessory with the extra plumbing makes the attached style very attractive. This would power an 1.5' x 8" x 1" cylinder for my 4x4 Labs setup. Thanks for any suggestions.

the folks of PSC have a nice pump for less than 200 bucks .. that flows 4GPM and raise around 1400 PSI more than enough for your setup ..

I agree with tapage here, go psc. No expert here, but psc seems to take this off road stuff pretty serious. I have never hear of this company you've brought up. I really don't know, I think tapage has done enough of this work to know.

PSC with their remote/filtered reservoir is what I run....zero complaints....

really, honestly, 'any' pump will work...the key is the remote/filtered reservoir and the added capacity

Yup, yup!!! My stock GM pump on SBC wasn't quite enough, so I went with the PSC reservoir and now it's awesome. The bugger was trying to get the reservoir as close as possible to directly above the pump in my setup.

I've got a high dollar, high volume howe pump, but it has the wrong pulley and mounting bracket for the serp belt system on the 55 so I used a stock GM sag pump from a remote resivoir application. I think it was from a van. It has a round pump with a hose fitting rather than the 'ham can' body with the cap on top. Modded the valve for a little more flow, but other wise it works fine with the Howe ram and remote/ filtered resivoir.

How will we know we're wheeling with CC if we can't hear the belt squeal?

I'm not sure if " any " pump will do the job .. at least was not my case in my setup with PSC 1.5" X 6" piston .. I want this setup steer and handle as same as was my setup without the ram assist. That need good flow and not sure if all pumps can provide more than 3.6 GPM constant to have fast steering reaction capacity.

I have the PSC set-up and have been pretty happy with it. Right now however I'm having a problem with the gear box so I can't give a 100% glowing endorsement of their products.

if your steering box still has a pitman arm and a drag link, then you'll see ZERO on-road changes...the 1-1/2" ram changes it offroad...your odds of binding up are nearly zero.

my PSC pump died after about 2 years...that was about 2-3 years ago...I've been running an Autozone stocker ever since...it's been changed at least once, but they are in every po-dunk town and it's an easy fix.

is the PSC better? sure...it will likely work better than the stocker when pushed....on road, you are NOT pushing it...OFF road, you are...

Part of my problem is that the Astro van power steering box that I use is so close to where a stock P series pump mounts on the block that I had to swap pulleys to a smaller diameter. I am on my third style of mounting hardware and the belt continues to slip with the slightest resistance on the tires. PSC's pump for chevy applications is a beefed up version of the same pump and I don't want to spend the money and still have slippage due to my mounting location issues.

The KRC pump is a newer TC style with a head mount that will get it out of the way of the PS box and hopefully a different mounting style will eliminate my belt squeal. Seriously anyone who has wheeled with me knows when I am on the trail since the squeal is so bad as to be comical! I figure that if I am going to the trouble of changing PS pumps that I might as well go the rest of the way for hydro assist.

The KRC also has changeable flow valves which allows me to adjust the flow to what I need (at least I hope so!). I have been googling hydro assist for a week and have seen a lot of guys using this pump from simple assist setups to full hydro pushing 42's.

I'm going to go with this pump and their remote reservoir and see what happens. The attached reservoir looked like a great solution for ease of installation, but the volume capacity seems to be a lot lower than their remote version. I am planning on using this cylinder https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2009112110095458&item=9-7258-8&catname=hydraulic. I am going to use camcruisers method of tubing welded to the axle to create a mounting location. I'm going to the pick n pull today to pick up a spare steering box to tap (this part is a little scary but will be a learning experience at least).

Brian and Todd should be able to see this at TFT if I get my butt in gear, so we'll see how it works soon. I hope to be ninja like in my new found stealth! :D

Here's a link to video that is full of the squeal YouTube - MOV00189.
