The price is $35,000. I purchased this Jan 1976 FJ40 from Dallas, TX in Nov 2015 and had it shipped to Huntsville, AL in a closed hauler. Additional photos and work I’ve completed over the years are at the following link: 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 · Nov 14, 2015 – Aug 16, 2025 📸 - https://photos.app.goo.gl/nHPQevh8wso7sMh68. The VIN number on A pillar plate, frame, and fender plate near battery match. Fender plate states color/trim codes as 532/LE11 (yellow/gray). FJ40 also comes with five gray steel wheels, hubcaps, five like new Michelin ATX (P235/75R15 LTX A/T) tires, and yellow/zinc lug nuts.

This FJ40 has been sold twice at Barrett-Jackson auctions – Orange County, CA in 2011 and Scottsdale, AZ in 2012. A following is a summary of the two Barrett-Jackson auctions and my notes.

Vehicle was restored to this high level in 2006. During restoration, suspension was changed to EMU Dakar, a smog-legal exhaust header was added, and Tuffy locking center console was installed. The rear sides were changed to Aug 1976 or later due to pop-out rear windows. The spare tire carrier is the correct box style and not the tubular style which came in Sep 1976. The vehicle still has the smog equipment installed. I don’t know if it would pass other state’s emission laws. I believe powertrain is original matching numbers 2F 257.9 cid backed with the original 4-speed transmission.

Below highlights items completed during ownership:

2015
  • Installed rear cargo liner and roll bar padding kit (Original roll bar pads go with vehicle)
2017
  • Installed OEM weatherstripping around front doors and ambulance doors
  • Acquired jack, jack holder, rods, rod holders, tool bag retention parts, and tool bag (Tool bag is reproduction)
  • Installed remanufactured OEM FJ40 power steering gearbox, GM power steering pump, 1975 FJ40 shortened steering column, and garage made cooler line (3/8 tubing) (Smog pump was lowered to clear power steering pump, and hose extended to air cleaner) (Original gearbox and steering column go with vehicle if buyer wants items)
2018
  • Roof and bezel repainted (Headliner dropped bringing top home and hasn’t been addressed to date)
  • Acquired 5 original OEM FJ40 wagon wheels and had them sandblasted and painted (Tires currently on FJ40 are B. F. Goodrich All-Terrain T/A Baja Champion 31 x 10.5 R15 LT)
  • Purchased 3 lug to 6 lug wheel spacer for spare tire holder to push spare further away from ambulance door
  • Installed OEM weatherstripping around tub, top, and windshield top
  • Driver and passenger floor pans touched up with paint at paint shop (Not exact match – painter did best he could with entire interior intact)
2021
  • Installed brake master cylinder, speed bleeders, and four Bilstein shocks
2024
  • Installed OEM Fuel Pump & Gasket
  • Installed Denso 3013 W14EXR-U spark plugs
  • Installed Retro Sound Long Beach Radio (LB/403/36-96 and USB/Auxiliary Extension Cable - Chrome) (Note - I requested painter to attach small metal plate with adhesive that matches the radio’s faceplate and knob dimensions as FJ40 doesn’t have side tabs for radio)
  • Front and rear speaker panels acquired, primed, and painted flat black
  • Installed shift lever inner boot, OEM shift lever boot retainer, transfer shift lever inner boot, City Racer’s reproduction floor mat, OEM wiper blades, vapor barrier for doors, and OEM door cards
  • Flushed clutch fluid and had carburetor adjusted at local Land Cruiser shop
2025
  • Wired radio to fuse box and installed Kenwood Performance Series Speakers 5 ¼” (KFC-1395PS) in rear (Additional set of KFC-1395PS speakers and flat black painted kick vent panels available)

Additional items yet to be installed that go with vehicle:
  • OEM weatherstripping for bottom of windshield and kick vents, and OEM pads for rear emblems (Toyota & 4 Wheel Drive)
  • OEM turn signal switch (current switch works but is missing a small section of covering on signal arm)
  • New Aisin clutch slave
  • City Racer’s wiper motor cover gasket for '75 to '77 Land Cruiser FJ40

Looking at the last 2 pics - are there two shades of paint on the rear, running horizontally just at the bottom of the windows?

It’s just the lighting. The top and doors bend inwards a bit there.

Paint isn’t two shades of yellow in back. I’ll blame the difference on sunshine and shading the morning the photos were taken.
