Hey guys. This is a s probably a better topic for the SQOD Squad thread, but I’m hoping to get a quick answer since I’m taking a long trip in the 200 tomorrow morning.

My wife texted today with the attached photo showing low pressure in her spare tire. We’re having a cold snap down here in Georgia, so I just chalked it up to the chilly weather.

I was in the garage tonight loading some gear for tomorrow and noticed a humming noise coming from above the spare tire. I walked back out a few minutes ago and no sound.

Any thoughts as to what this is?

Evap system pump doing its thing?

yes. Normal. Gets asked about every couple of months.

@Blackford Oakes Drop the spare to top it up.. I like keeping it a bit above the rated pressure so it at least isn't too low by the time I need to use it.

And ignore the buzzing sound from the evap system. So you know, it is periodically applying vaccum to the fuel tank to check for cap integrity. The motor may also have to do with clearing fuel tank vapors into the charcoal canister as well, but I'm not sure about that part.

Thanks so much, y’all.

I searched a bit before posting to no avail. I’m glad it’s not a tire pressure sensor ready to explode and cause an electrical fire while I’m cruising down the road.

Cheers, guys.

Just thought of one more thing.. the rubber pads that the spare wheel press against like to collect grit then grind away the wheel finish. Make sure you clean them and the wheel well before putting it back up, and get it good and tight against the brace. You should be able to compress most of the spring in the hanger at the end of the chain.

These steps should help prevent damaging the appearance of the spare wheel.
