I am not affiliated with this auctioneer....but the amount of fabrication equipment up for sale is amazing. The University of Vermont is demolishing one of its buildings and several labs and engineering spaces need to be wiped clean. Take a look...show your partners and get that checkbook ready....

The public auction will be held SUNDAY, APRIL 27 at 10:00 am

Shop & Fabricating Equipment Auction - Thomas Hirchak Company, Auctioneers

I really wish you hadn't posted this. Now my tax refund is no longer safe... :)

Road trip! See you there?

I could be very, very wrong....but I just can't imagine that there is a huge market for this type of equipment. I think the woodworking stuff will be a draw for carpenters, but the metal fab stuff I don't think so.

Damn you. Everyone disregard this post. this does not exsist. These are not the droids you are looking for.

NOt like I can actually afford anything right now.....

anyone coming up this way had better post up here so the local idiots like vtcruiser60 and myself can hook up with you.

and toss you in a burlap sack in the trunk of my car until after the auction. huh? wait, was that out loud?

Sorry man...I screwed up. I should have kept all that good news to myself.

Folks...I am going to delete this thread so we can hoard all these tools and flip them. Bewahahahahaha....

Are you kidding me? I'd sell a kidney to get that Bridgeport.

DIBS ON THAT ROCKWELL DRILL PRESS!!! IT'S ALL MINE!!! :)

I'm pretty sure I'll be there. Trying to make this a "weekend away" outing for the GF and I, gonna start looking for a local B&B today. Any suggestions?

lots within 40 miles. Check out the millhouse in starksboro, if they are taking guests. I will try to dig up some info.

Have you been to burlington?

There are two B and B's within walking distance of downtown Burlington...and for that matter 15 min walk to the UVM campus. Check out the Lang House or the Willard Street Inn.

Have you been to burlington?

It's been several years, and I was only driving thru. I've taken the ferry across the lake a couple of times.

You guys might be suprised on how many people want this stuff. Every street rod builder within a couple hundred miles will probaly be there. Also you might want to see how much to load the bridgeport before you bid on it, if they hired a rigging company to be on site, they will probaly charge big$$$$. I got hosed once for loading.

Regarding loading of this stuff, I have a 2 ton engine hoist here --about 5 min-- from UVM and would be happy to loan it out that day. I will be out of town but if Rabid is heading to the auction you can coordinate with him to use the hoist.

I would loan out my brother in law....but he is a wuss.

Went to the auction today. What a waste of time, I didn't bid on anything, I actually left before they got 1/3 of the way thru it all. Most of the stuff was worn out beat up junk, the pictures on that website made them look better than they actually were. What was more shocking was the prices some people were paying for this stuff, I was shocked. For example, this trashed Grizzly bandsaw went for $270:

Thomas Hirchak Company, Auctioneers - 800-634-7653 - 802-88-4662/UVMAuction-056

The thing was hardly worth $50, IMO. The vise was out of alignment, and the entire saw was coated in 20-year old cutting fluid, it was a mess.

That ginormous Rockwell drillpress went for $650, waaaay out of my budget. It was bigger than I thought, so it would have been a real challenge getting it into the Highlander, even tearing it down. Required 240V to run it. It had been used a lot, the quill had a lot of slop in it, and the morse taper was gouged (someone had obvious spun the chuck or a bit in the quill).

The Bridgeport sold for $1500, and it was broken.

All was not lost, it was a very nice day in Burlington, so we went downtown and walked around, did some shopping, had a very nice lunch at the brewery, then a leisurly drive home.

Thanks for the post up report. I was the original post on this one and feel somewhat badly that it actually sucked. But now I think we all know to be a bit more cautious about finding stuff at something like this. Thanks for the report just the same.
