ok went wheeling today and this problem arose while attempting a nasty hill. right front wheel sounds like grinding gears really bad. like the gears are slipping. enough to make me abandon the attempt and come home. its only under lots of torque. also 4 hi keeps popping out. im aware of all the fixes for that. have changed all springs and bearings and tomorrow going to look at motor mounts and move that bracket under the boot, but just wondering if it could be related to this current problem. also since it happened no when i burn the clutch a little its makeing a similar noise from the same place. so im off early tomorrow and am going to take it to the garage i use and tear into this stuff and see. also not long ago i had the hub apart i might not have gotten the bearing back in right. what are you supposed to torque the hub bolt at to set it before you back it off again?

thanks for any ideas on what to look for.

Check the motor mounts...same thing happened to me on a steep climb.

The noise your mostly hearing is the fan coming into contact with the radiator shroud. This will also cause the poping out of gear from the torqueing of the engine & drivetrain.

Good luck.

thanks. motor mounts are also on my list to check tomorrow.
you know come to think of it it didnt seem that performance was suffering in 4 lo now that i think about it. i may have just found the culprit
would that also cause the strange noise when i have to burn the clutch when its out of 4wheel?

son of a b***h. come to think of it i had some nasty clunks to. thanks fj60guy sometimes someone just has to remind you of the simple crap a motor mount has to be it

Also check the tranny mounts.
