How would you treat this rust?

This lx is a Florida truck that's just moved to michigan. There's the typical surface rust underneath, but nothing noteworthy that I can see.

The only body rust I can find anywhere on the truck is 1)in the rolled seam at the top of the hatch, 2)some minor surface rust near the latch, where it looks like the paint has rubbed off, and 3)in the welded seam on the passenger side rear pillar.

how should i treat these spots so it doesn't get worse and become a problem?

I have been uaing Corroseal with really good results. Most of what I get out here in Utah is rock chips on the bottom that rust over pretty quickly. I put a wipe of corroseal over them, and the problem is solved for the time being. Eventually I will have to sand and repaint the larger areas, but it keeps the rust from spending until then.

I think what most cruiserheads (on here) will tell you is to grind down the paint around the effected areas, use some rust converter, then repaint each section. Personally, as someone who is treating all sorts of different rust spots on my 100, I would just order a pint of POR15 CLEAR online, apply a few coats to the areas, then order some touchup paint to paint over the POR15 after its cured.

I just bought a banged up fuel tank skidplate from a junk yard, cleaned it (with POR products), and now just waiting for the final coat of POR15 Black to dry before spraying it with a topcoat of paint. The skidpate is rock solid and looks brand new, and while I obviously can't comment on the longterm reliability of the product, many mudmembers and bodyshop experts alike have recommended it for a while.

If you do decide to just use some POR, make sure that when you buy it its labeled as CLEAR so you can easily paint over it with touchup paint after (obviously easier to paint the oem color over a clear coat than it will be a black coat).

Good luck friend

Is this rust most likely coming from the leaky upper brake light gasket problem that i keep reading about?
