Hey guys,

Took the 100 camping this weekend, and between kids taking a nap and crating the puppy, the tailgate was open 50% of the time. I was able to turn the dome lights off with a switch, but the door courtesy lights stayed ok the entire time.

I found this thread that lets you control these with a switch, which is awesome and I am totally doing this on my 80, but it’s for the 80 series:

Is there a similar write up out there for a 100?

Thanks in advance!

I just put a carabiner in the gate latch , I have a winch pull strap on it so I don’t forget it’s there. works fine

That same mod will work for the 100. You’re simply preventing the rear hatch from telling the truck that it’s been opened. The other doors will still activate the dome/courtesy light system. The white-wire-with-black-stripe coming from the hatch latch switch needs to go through a new switch.

Buy LED's and forget it. I camp out of my rig a ton and I've never had a problem with them staying on. They do power off after 15 minutes or so of not opening/closing a door.

@pfran42 sells a great kit.

I actually just installed the PFran kit on the 100, and yes, it worked really well - super bright compared to before. However, my lights did not turn off automatically after 15 mins - door lights just stayed on. So even with the LEDs drawing less power, leaving the truck on with the tailgate open all night can drain the battery. I remember reading somewhere that the 15 automatic turn off time can be adjusted (default is 20mins) - how would I go about adjusting it?

Is there a write up or photos of what this looks like?

Awesome, thanks for clarifying that - will open it up to look this week.

Not sure about a write up as there’s nothing to it actually, just stick a carabiner in the latch to fool the system into thinking it’s closed.. I borrowed this pic from another thread , I also use it to hang light weight items from

Ok the carabiner trick is pretty genius too. Thanks folks. Will attempt both this weekend, probably with the switch method.
