it sold......for 22k

In 6 yrs or so, importing the older 70 series will be a piece of cake with the 25yo rule IIRC... Ya just need a little patience ;)

it's interesting that the buyer knew exactlee what the max bid had to be to purchase it....

I'll still be contacting the owner tomorrow, just in case the deal falls thru for some reason.

That information was posted on POR, so we all knew what it was. I recognize the buyer's eBay handle. I'm thinking he may have been the seller of a white FJ45 or else maybe a BJ74 on eBay several months ago. Minnesota guy I think. I'll see what I can dig up.

Woody, see if the seller will tell you who the buyer is, or at least ask the buyer to post here so we can keep track of that beauty...

I found him, kind of. He's in CO. He sold a BJ-40 in the spring: BJ-40 listing on eBay

Interesting excerpt from that listing:
Selling only due to unique opportunity to purchase HZJ-79 truck.

I think I emailed him about the BJ40, but I must not have saved his reply, or I'd have his email address.

Hi all, now that I can finally log in again, here's my two cents worth.

Air bags for light duty trucks were required as of production date Sept. 1, 1997, and even then if a vehicle has a manufacturer certified GVW of 8500 lbs or greater it is exempt.

As for Toyota Gibraltar, there are two private individuals in Montana who each have a 2002 HZJ79 that Gibraltar sold tehm new, and there is a private individual here in the Twin Cities who has spoken at great length with Gibraltar and they have agreed to sell to him and have quoted him a price to any US port then he's on his on to get it in.

As long as a Cruiser is an "MPV" (multipurpose vehicle AKA SUV and NOT a pickup) then the current eligibility petitions cover it no matter what the series.

This HZJ75 has an RI sticker on it so despite the fact that it doesn't have air bags, front and rear side marker lights, high mount rear brake light, license plate light, door ajar light/buzzer, seatbelt light/buzzer, roll cage (required because of removeable top/fold down windshield), locking glove box, and the things Jim_Chow listed, the RI takes on that responsibility not the owner. This means that if the EPA comes knocking, it is the RI who pays the $5000 fine. This means that of the DOT/NHTSA comes knocking the RI has an opportunity/obligation to make things right, if they can't, the owner has to export it but can sell it after export and is not out $. If the truck has to be destroyed the RI has to reimburse the owner the value of the vehicle. This is why RIs are bonded and insured, it covers them for these things. This HZJ75 was here, had a WI title already, and was a golden opportunity to anyone with the money. I would have bought it in a heart beat has I had the money, sucks to be poor and in debt.
