Like the title asks. I’m 0 for 2 on not tearing the insulation. I thought I was being pretty gentle on swing 2. Is there something I should have loosened before tugging and prying the foam?

Should I try to glue the foam back together or just put the torn piece back in there and call it good. Should I buy a new foam piece?

The foam ages and is more likely to tear, I think it just comes with the territory of owning an engine with substantial miles on it.

Changing all of the foam isn’t a hard job..

Does look like some hose brackets may need to be loosened before trying to pry it out. I'll order a new one and deal with it later. Taking coils out for inspection and replacing spark plugs now. Currently wrestling with #8. Funny, the last time I replaced #8 coil was in the middle of KS on the way to LCDC in Ouray. At least this time, I'm in my shop.

Mine tore too, same place. I tucked it back it good and tight and I don’t expect any problems with it.

Here is what it looks like. No wonder I teared it when I pulled on it.

part no. was 12613-38010 but now superseded with 12613-0S010

If you’re gonna do the front might as well do the back and sides also.

I think you might have to take the intake manifold off to do it. If so, then for sure I’d replace all of them. May order the parts and shelve them for when/if I have to do the valley plate thing.

Yes, manifold must come off. I replaced the foam and intake mani gaskets in less than an hour for the whole job when I did mine.

Edit: maybe two. I also replaced the throttle body gasket and cleaned the assembly while I had it apart.

But I removed the manifold again to get pictures for the thread on the harness clips and it was maybe 30 mins total to get it off and back on.

The foam part goes under the manifold.

So the point here is do not try pulling it out at the PCV. It may be possible to remove the PCV with the foam part in place. Of course now I have a two part foam piece so it’s easy to remove now. I’m going to refer to that as my PCV mod.
