This is for a friend's LC...anyone here know how to remove the front corner lamp units on a '01 100? Does one need to first remove the head lamp and/or lower trim? The FSM doesn't show how they're attached. He's trying to wire up the turning/parking lights for his sahara bar. It seems to me it would be easier to splice into the harness just before it enters the large grommet behind the lamp...

This is how I did it last time:

Open the hood and you'll see one screw that fastens the corner lamp from the top. The lamp is also held in by a "pin/tab" that runs horizontally behind the lamp.

To remove, you must slide the corner lamp forward towards the front of the vehicle. You can kinda palm the lamp and try it that way or you can reach from under the bumper and maybe use a screwdriver to push the lamp forward.

Once the lamp is loose, you'll need to kinda wiggle it straight forward and out. Don't break screw tab! On the LX, I remember seeing another plug harness down in there near the bumper. Not sure what it's for. I didn't really investigate too much.

Okay, thanks. The FSM electrical manual shows the harness that goes into the big grommet behind the corner lamp(s) contains the wires for the corner lamp (green on the LX), plus wires for the fog/turning signals. On the driver's side, there's also stuff for the headlight washers (probably canadian version) plus the night vision assist.

In my 98 I used the following procedure -

- locate a Ford F150 (other models may work) [No trailer ball]
- approach the Ford from behind and slightly to one side
- using a speed of 5mph or less bring the two vehicles in contact ( I did this in traffic but a parking lot might work)
- my corner light popped clean out with only minor damage to the tab hoser mentioned
- this method is probably better for for those looking to install a new ARB bumper than those who just want to change the bulb ;)

Haha, yeah, MMuzj's method would probably be faster. Can somebody snap a picture of the inside part of the LC corner lamp. I'm particularly interested where you insert the bulb... whether the harness is different than the LX ones. As you may know, the corner lamps are interchangable for the LC/LX. Just not sure if the bulbs are different.

Thanks Mohit! Yes, the LX corner lamp bulbs are different than the LC bulbs, assuming the U.S. LC market ones are the same as the aussie edition. I bought some aftermarket LC crystal clear corner lamps and they have the larger bulb as well. I would have preferred the OEM ones but it was $45 vs $160 and the corner lamps seem to break on vehicles fairly often. But I need to put in the LC type harness or adapt the corner lamp housing to fit the LX harness.

Anyway, the clear corners look better than the orange. I might just throw an orange bulb in there to be "more" DOT legal.

I just changed the RF side marker bulb in my LX and the bulb is different than the LC. The LX has a 5W "wedge" bulb, similar to the rear license plate bulbs. The replacement is as hoser described - I opened the hood, removed the screw from the tab on top, slid the assembly slightly forward, then tilted outward and wiggled it enough to get to the cable and remove/replace the bulb. Installation was the reverse. Took about 5 minutes.
