When I bought my truck it had this cellular antenna attached to the outside/inside the rear window. It looks like it's stuck with some really strong tape, but I'm not certain. Anyone know how to remove it? Was there a hole drilled through the glass in order for it to connect the internal piece to the external one? I want to get my windows tinted darker and want this annoying piece removed, but I don't want to remove it if there will be a hole there.

Thanks.

i had one on my '94 -- the glass guy removed it -- with a razor, i remember -- try it with a razor and some windex, if you'd like, going slowly

I took all my cell phone stuff out that the PO had in, the antenna is just glued on. I used a matco trim tool I have at work, but a stiff kitchen spatula (plastic) should work. Then you just need some adhesive remover.

....I just used liquid nitrogen and a ball peen hammer ... :D

*listening* - Cause I want to turn mine on a 45° angle ... so I can actually keep in the upright pos'n when I'm driving in and out of the condo ..

would be interesting if they tried to put a hole in the glass for that, but then you never know with "mechs" these days...

It's just tape, very very strong tape. I wondered the same things before I took mine off. I used a blade from my utility knife.

Hijack: The rear window my antenna was on doesn't open,a nd I noticed this one doesn't have the latch either. The LCs I've noticed do open though. Is this a "feature" of the LX's, and what would it's purpose be?

I just helped Cruise4070 take the one off his 80 yesterday and its just stuck on with tape. use a putty knife and try to cut the foam part of the tape when doing the inside part then it lets you work on the glue so you can be careful with the stock tinting as it can get scatched.
BTW I had just about the whole truck apart on the inside to get the rest of the hard mounted cell phone out .
I was proud as It was great install by the company that did it . Made me want to :'( As anything around here thats put in aftermarket is more likely to let the magic smoke out and start a fire then work right :(

the LX mounts the Factory analog cell phone to the inside of that window, I assume the window is stationary to prevent damaging the antenna cable

ahhhh....
well that makes sense. I noticed that difference ages ago, but couldn't figure out why that one window was non-operational.

(check one off the "mysteries of life" list :D )
