Hello

I have got a Land Cruiser 70 with a MM 9000 hydraulic winch.
Anyone know how i could get some more speed out of the winch (optimizing power and speed)?

I have installed a used Saginaw PS pump from a Ford G20 van, but stil ain`t satisfied with the preformance of the winch. Is it possible to tweak the pump to deliver a higher GPM?

Best Regards

Is it possible to get a hold of a used ZF74 pump? If yes, what car uses it?

The ZF74 is the Rover PS pump.

any success with this setup?
I have similar (might even say it is the same: MM1200+Saginaw Pseries pump).
So far all standard but curently I am modufying the MM internals to get some 25..30% (expected) better line speed.
I have drilled the pump output port from 3,6mm to 4,0mm and at the same time modified the simple OCV setup between the valve block and the engine block (there is a metal washer and flow control disk) in such a way as to make the forward flow significantly easier and with minimum flow change towards the rear: I drilled the central hole from 1,5mm to 2.0mm and modified the shape of the outer hexagon by removing some metal making sure that the contact surfaces do remain untouched.
Will report results as soon as we will fix the pump housing where the top connector (from the tank) got broken out possibly due to too strong hydroulic line type used there by us.

sorry for the picture quality but my phone is not used for naking makro pictures ;)

Plow Pump.

I need to get one for mine. Right now Im using a mini truck pump that can winch me up a slight hill, but stalls easily. To get the actual full power, you need the correct flow rate as well as pressure. Keeping the fluid cool is key to reduce cavitation and stalling.

Rob:
with the Saginaw Pseries pump I have the factory spec preasure and flow - problem, is that i would like to get some more speed - as much as possible from single v-beld driven pump.
I have once got the winch stalled but it was when I was dragging the car across deep mud and ploughed a nice mud wall in front of the car. Elsewhere it was pulling like an offroader on a desert trip toward a cool beer bar ;)

Shoot the guys at 4x4winches an email. When I was talking with them one of the guys mentioned changing the stock hydraulic motor on the winch to change the line speed. I don;t think I have my old emails so your best bet is contact them. Super nice guy that I talked with, can't recall his name for the life of me though.

I looked around last night for the web site that has the info I used to bump up my Jeep PS pump flow and pressure. You put the piston from the pump on a drill press and open up the diameter of the hole the fluid travels through and then add a small machine washer to increase the spring rate and therefore pressure. I will try and look some more. I'm sure the pumps are all designed very similar, so you can probably do the same with what you already have. I will try and keep looking but I think its Southern something. I remember the web page was blue-ish.

EDIT: Just found it. This really worked for me and I'm sure if I tinkered with it some more I could really get it working better. Here is the link:

From what I have been told, a snow plow pump is the best, cheapest and easiest thing to use.
