Live over around Dothan, AL. Used to be a TLCA member back around 2000.
Have a 1976 FJ-40 (in a coma since 2000), a 2006 4Runner (2wd) and just acquired a 1998 Prado.
We mostly enjoy trail rides (not rock climbing or deep mud bogs).
We completed the Georgia Traverse 2 years ago (best time ever). And 600-2 in Talladega National forest in Sept.
Both were done in the 2006 4Runner (2wd).
Have to admit we got stuck on 600-2 in a big mudhole, but we made the rest of the trail just fine (north to south).

Anyway, wanting to get more into trail riding and our 4 hours sitting in the Talladega mud hole make me realize I needed a 4wd and more people in our traveling party.
Used to be a member of the Deep South Cruisers (now defunct) out of Birmingham, but never did an event with them, too far away for the most part.

So I thought about getting up with you guys as you're the closest to me (as far as I know). But I'm not finding a lot of contact information.
Please advise.

Thanks,
Maurice

Hi Maurice,
Contact Kim Smith (Membership Services) at “redhillslandcruiserclub@gmail.com” and she can help you out.
Thanks, Charles

** Would love to see photos of the Prado.

Dixie Land Cruisers is based in Birmingham area and is a TLCA chapter. Only sharing this in case you were not aware. It does not change the distance disadvantage with Birmingham for you.

On the chance that you still know any of the Cruiser community, the DLC meets at Windrock MLK weekend and they might attend if they are still active.

Since I never really did anything with them, I didn't really meet any of them. A couple names I remember is Paul Walker, Greg Kennemer and Hal Hall.
(I list their names just in case they might still be active on the boards).

Thanks for the info. DLC is twice as far away as Red Hills. Would have liked to have gone up on the 17th-20th, but I already know I'm going to be busy that week/weekend.

Maurice,
In the day ... Wheeled with Hal Hall at GSMTR over the years. I just don't recall Paul and Greg but our paths probably crossed.

FYI I am not a member of Red Hills, but I have met some members. Those that I have met are very good people and true Cruiser heads. I hope your assessment is even higher. Enjoy

I am in a similar situation without a nearby TLCA chapter. Red Hills is the only chapter in Georgia now, serving the SW Georgia/Florida panhandle/SE Alabama region. Resulting in a drive too long to consider becoming a member of Red Hills. In fact, I find the other TLCA chapters (Birmingham/Huntsville/Nashville/Knoxville/Greenville/Charleston/Charlotte) in the region are all too far of a drive to become a member too. [some would be a shorter drive than Red Hills]

A solution that works for me is to attend events that these chapters host. Red Hills hosted the 70 Series Meet-n-Greet in September (with support from Knoxville team). DCL hosted a weekend of wheeling in the Talladega NF last month. Ole North hosts the Relic Run every April in recognition of vintage Cruisers, but all are welcome. I have attended these events and additional TLCA sanctioned events each year. I am not fortunate in having a TLCA chapter near by, but very fortunate in being able to enjoy a wider slice of the TLCA community.

Good luck in bringing your 40 out of hibernation and re-connecting in the Cruiser community.

Hal Hall is the only one of them I ever really met. Great guy. Went to a couple events where he was at.
Have lost track of him though, so no clue where he is or what he's up to.

I share your thoughts on Hal. I have also lost touch with him. I vaguely recall that other life commitments, and possibly health considerations, pulled him away from being so active in the Cruiser community.

Red Hills footprint (Southeast Alabama, Southern Georgia and the Panhandle of Florida) covers a LOT of square miles and we do our best to move events around so no one person has to drive long distances on a regular basis but as you can imagine, this is a struggle at times when you represent parts of 3 states. We encourage members to plan an event in their area and with enough notice, we’ll travel to you. 😊
