Ok, noob question... how can I identify which gear ratio a differential is by sight, meaning it's out of the truck sitting by itself, and mine aren't pulled to compare it to?

If the tag is off the inspection cover? Remove the cover and count the ring then turn the pinion. Roll it pinion down before removing the cover or have a pale to catch the gear oil.

Mark the ring and pinion, three turns on the pinion to bring the ring around, fifty teeth on the ring, 3.50's It has been along time, but I think that works?

Assuming no markings anywhere...

This could help you.
Pilfered from Precisoin Gear's site:

ratio---teeth---p/n (precision gear)

3.70 37-10 LC/370
4.11 37-9 LC/411
4.56 41-9 LC/456
4.88 39-8 LC/488

I'd think that would depend on the gear manufacturer.

That's why I listed the ring and pinion tooth count of each respective ratio as a sure fire method barring the p/n. You can count the teeth on each.

for example:
37 / 9 = 4.1111 (4.11 gears)
41 / 9 = 4.5555 (4.56 gears)

Also, all the cruiser rings are 9.5" dia.
