Hi i have a 1986 bj70 landcruiser with a 3b diesel engine 12v, after some research i have come to the decision that i want to put a 1hz into this car so i am looking for some instructions as to the easiest setup that will fit in there what will i need to change and what can i possibly get away with not changing. Cheers

Ben you need new engine mounts welded to the chassis, 1hz engine, bellhousing, clutch, gearbox main shaft, exhaust system, radiator then sort wiring, vacuum lines, engineers certificate etc.

The 3b a good engine with a turbo but like all early Toyota diesel engines you need to invest in a good set of alfin type pistons that have steel inserts on the top ring.
If I'm happy with my 2h power after my planned turbo install I will run alfin pistons. If not I will invest in a complete 1hdt or 1hd-ft wreck and have everything on hand needed for the install and sell whats left over.

If I was in Ben's shoes I would be looking for a good 14bt or a 15bt engine

What do you want this vehicle for Ben?
I know very little about mechanics so you've lucked out there, but I know you need a build plan that matches your intended use.

If its an introductory vehicle to 4WDing and the cars not the "special one" just fix what you've got..... this would have to be the cheapest option.
You sound like your already mechanically minded, get the good pistons and sh!t Ozy's talking about and turbo it. It would be a fun SWB.
* no cutting and welding new engine mounts, no electrical changes, gauges etc.etc

If you have the time and money and want the extra power because you enjoy more extreme 4WDing do the 1hz........it will just take a lot longer and a lot more money.
