How often are rotors replaced in AZ?

I am curious as to how often the owner's of 80's have to replace and/or turn their rotors? Let's hear your stories. :popcorn:
 
One thing I learned early on is that there is a big difference in the cheap $24.00 aftermarket rotors vs the expensive factory ones. On light cars you can probably get away with the cheapos but warping issues will abound unless a quality rotor is used.
 
This has been pointed out to me already and I understand that. I am just looking for the OEM rotors and the duration they need to be maintained.

What is your cost to replace the front rotors with Toyo rotors?
 
As far as my front brakes Tony, the front pads last me around 22K and I resurface at that time. Last time, right before I resurfaced, I had a little shimmy at times.
I dont seem to have to resurface in between brake jobs.

one thing to bring up: I met a guy with a lifted 80 that had problems with front rotors always warping - he never adjusted his lsvp to compensate for the lift and make his rear brakes contribute to stopping power. his front brakes were doing all the work and getting hot.
 
I've never even turned mine. They'be been in good shape every time I've changed the pads.

Most pedal pulsation is caused by drivers, it is almost always uneven buildup of pad material on the rotor. Most drivers are told/believe that heat is a bad thing, so drive like a :princess:. News flash, brakes work by converting energy into heat! Heat is a good thing, even smoking them, under controlled conditions is good for brakes. For best brake performance and life, the pads should never touch metal, the rotor should be covered with an even coating of pad material, so braking is pad material to pad material. This is done by smoking new pads several times. It is called bedding the brakes.

When I got my rig, it had 34k miles, was on it's second set of pads and had a huge brake pulsation. It was so bad the the dealer didn't want to allow customers test drive it, until they did a brake job. I bought it as is, where is, to drive it off of the lot, they made me sign a disclaimer that I was aware of the brake problem and that the tires were 8yrs old, could fail at anytime.

My first task was to aggressively bed-in the brakes, several high speed, hot, smoky stops in a row, then allowing them to cool before stopping. This almost eliminated the pulsation. I wasn't impressed with the stock pads, so changed to EBC Green Stuff pads, and bedded them. This totally eliminated the pulsation and they are still totally smooth. The rotors still look like new and plan on them lasting a very long time.:hillbilly: Properly maintained rotors should last pretty much the life of the rig.
 
Bought mine at 114k (currently 178k) and I have never changed the front rotors. I have replaced the rear rotors about 3-4 years ago. I was using Hawk pads and I now use EBC green stuff. Both are good pads for the 80.

I also did a complete caliper rebuild about 4 years ago. and I've bled my system and flushed in new fluid 3 times in the 6+ yrs I've had her. All soft brake lines have been replaced as well.
 
Everything on my front end is new, calipers, pads, gears, bearings, birfs, blah blah blah but the rotors were fine and not replaced. Now I am 1200 miles later and I am getting a bad vibration applying the brakes. I think I have a dark shadow that follows me....
