How much water to spray drywall mud???

I am going to be texturing a good sized room in my house. I am using usg drywall compound and was wondering how much water should be added in order to spray it through a hopper gun. Also does the ceiling need to be a different texture than the walls? Any help would be great, the sooner I am done with this, the quicker I can get back to working on my 69 fj40. thanks bosscat800

the drywall compound should be about the consistancy of syrup...will spray fine...a messy job so cover everything you do no want textured...a tarp on the floor makes clean up easy....walls and ceiling can be sprayed however you...or your wife prefer....good luck
