All points well taken, but for the purpose of clarity, i DID REQUEST AN ESTIMATE and his estimate was "cheaper to buy a reman and stick it in". According to a local source, and I've yet to get my hands on a paper copy of it, Chilton's online labor guide states:
3 spd transmission (remove and replace / rebuild) - 7.6 hours (*note he only replaced, it was already removed)
long block install and switch over parts from old motor including remove and reinstall) - 15 hours (note he reinstalled only, motor was already pulled).
That being said, I'll leave the hours in there for removal to account for the dropping parts in parts cleaner and pressure washing.
So we're at 22.6 hours, call it 25 for a couple hours of reading the manual on the crapper. Do not know his posted labor rate, but considering he has "over 70 hours in it" and is charging me $3900 in labor ($55 an hour roughly), let's assume the rate is $60 an hour. That's $1500.
Leave in parts and misc. shop supplies at $648.99 plus 6.5% sales tax = $691.17.
Plus $75 for tow bill --> Total at $2266.17.
None of you know me, but I am not the type to question people's bills if they are anywhere within reason. Things happen and I understand that, I am in the service business and just because I spend 70 hours on a job that takes 20 per accepted industry standards, I can't charge my Client that, I eat it. Had this bill been $3500, i probably would have licked my wounds and moved on. But it has become a matter of principle to me at this point.
