I've been looking into a 350 for my 86 60 and came across a fresh TPI fully dressed w/wiring and ECM.
The guy said he dumped alot into it and says it pushes 360-370HP!
My stock 2F puts out 135HP (on a good day) and I was wondering if the 350 is just too much power for an H55 and stock diffs? Not to mention the frame etc. etc.

I'm not sure what a stock 350 TPI from a Camaro is supposed to put out, but it also makes me think it might not pass smog either.

What do you guys think?

Has anyone tried the new tundra motor? That seems like a great reliable motor plus good horpower. Then you can keep it all YOTA!
Or a lexus ls400 engine (I've heard from many of my toyota mechanic buddies it''s the best engine toyota has made)

The 350 swap is tried and proven...unless you're extremely talented and have unlimited fab capabilities, along with a stunning knowledge of things electrical, computer, wiring, etc, you're going to probably be far over your head with either the tundra or lex engine. Wiring fixes are already available to mix the chevy v8 with the sixty. You won't have trans or axle problems unless you set out to break something intentionally. I had a 77 FJ40 with a 383 stroker dynoed at over 400 hp. Never had a "teething" problem. Aditionally, I've owneed several other v8 40's and sixtys. None had the H55 however. It would probably much easier to buy a rolled tundra or lx and rebody it with the 60 body than pull the engine and try to find your own way in the dark.

Re: Tundra/LS400 engine in a FJ - only one known to have done it is Rod Millen in a 55 - spent over $250K doing it ('course it's a show car funded by Toyota). And it doesn't have the torque of the SBC.

Ditto Texx - the SBC has been going into FJs since at least the 1970s. And the engine/auto trans weighs about the same as the 2F/4spd.

When I asked my 4X4 mechanic friend about the Toyota V8 swap (he helped me with the 460 in my '56 F100), he said "why don't you pick something REALLY hard?". Now I have a Vortec 5.7/4L60E in my '84 FJ60 because of him. I wouldn't have a LS/LT1.
