A guy I know bought a new car (high end) and he found out after he bought it that it had $6k worth of paint work paid under warranty. Dealership says it was just "color sanded" because it had orange peel, which as I understand it is wet sanding and maybe reshooting the clear coat. So how completly fubared was this car to need $6k worth of sanding. At 100 bucks an hour shop rate thats gotta be 50 hours plus materials. Or is the dealerhip BS him?

No body shop on the planet charges $100 per hour that I know off. I use http://www.jmbody.com/ and the shop rate is $54.00 Shameless plug for Jim's son he raced for Mazda and is now racing indy pro. http://www.ryanjustice.com/

Wet sanding it an art and Juan is a freak when it comes to sanding a new car. I sent him a 07 GTO in black and he did the whole thing dry with a orbitol sander. I about crapped my pants when I went to look at it. It was a big chalk covered mess, but when I got it back it was smooth as glass and looked wet!

Dude I was impressed and it was flawless! The bill was less than $400.00

Quite possible on a Jag I suppose. The dealer is going to charge Jag whatever they can get out of it. If the vehicle was subjected to hydraulic fluid leaking from the trailer on the delivery truck or rail dust from shipping from the port then the paint was probably trashed. You can get an indication of what kind of work was done by running your fingers along the edges of the fenders, hood, and trunk lid. Also look in the door jambs for evidence of taping or overspray.
If you find the edges have a rough edge or tape marks in the jambs then I'd say it's likely there was a bit more than color sanding and spraying of clear coat happening.
On the other hand if you find no evidence of any of the work I'd say that some very extensive (read time consuming) prep was involved.
What model Jag was this?

They had to have painted the car for that price. It will be high if the car is red, or any sort of red. High end red paint will cost your a$$. High end paint/clear coat in general is high price.

I wet sand every other weekend on something for my resto and 6k is fraud in my eyes............You can only sand for so long with 2k wet or dry. Come on if you paid them $100 an hour for 60 hours they would burn through with copy paper.

Is this a real question? Or did it get paint work and no one want to tell???

The dealerships have to disclose any damage to a new car over a certain dollar amount. I don't know what that dollar amount is now, but, $6,000 worth was some body and paint repair. Probably even a new bumper or hood or something... The dealer just thought that if they said it was only color sanding, they wouldn't ask any more questions. New Jags don't need color sanding from the factory.

100 bucks an hour sounds about right for the bay area, ca. where are you located?

Keven Tetz has an excellent "Color Sanding and Buffing" video.
In fact all of his videos are good, including the "Paint Your Own Car"
which I found really helpful.
