do i need for my sixty. ive been searching so long my eyes feel like they are bleeding.

I was going to measure it out before I take it off, maybe sombody could post the answer and save me a couple hours of my life...

A little less than 30 feet of the small stuff, but get 30 if you can afford it, to accomodate cutting errors, etc. The OEM is nice, silicone rubber is very nice.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. i remember it was posted in here before somewhere but could not find it for the life of me.

YOU ROCK:D

i did mine a while back when i still had the 2f and i used every bit of 40 ft. there is no telling if i did it wrong or not. just my .01

Why this stuff??

Read this thread. I posted up the part numbers from McMaster I used. Replacing with the silicon was one of the best things I have done to my 60.

Please excuse my ignorance once again... but why this stuff and why not OEM or what ever some of the suppliers sell. I'm looking to replace the lines in my truck too. I don't like the prices I see on sor... geez, $3 and change, almost $4 a foot for this stuff. Is it all about the price and the availability of color choice??? I'm diggin' the price... .91 /foot from McMaster, not so turned on by color availability...simple math, eh? what's with the food rating?

i used the mcmaster carr stuff matador pointed out to me. works great and was enough with some left over for extra.

as for this over OEM? well, to be honest the OEM stuff seemed a lot more expensive and this hose was high quality and high temp. it also has thick walls. the orange color looks cool in the engine too, i think - but that's just BS.

the food rating i would assume is for use in food equipment. possibly hydraulics?

Yeah, it is rated for food, but really it is just generic thick walled silicon hose. The silicon hose will last longer under the heat cycles inundated on it by the 2F. It won't crack either, decreasing the risk of a cracked hose and a vacuum leak you can't find in the future. It is also very flexible and easy to run. I had it recommended to me by guys here on this board who also purchased it from mcmaster, and IMOP it is superior to generic vacuum line. Also, it is hard to find these sizes locally in a parts store, as compared to mcmaster, which has everything.

And then, the cost too. For just under a buck a foot, this stuff is a steal.

Silicone rubber is a tough material that maintains it's flexibility and strength after long exposure(years into decades!) to the conditions found under the hood of a car/truck. The OEM hose is some other kind of synthetic rubber(maybe EPDM or ?) which lasts an amazingly long time in use but is unfortunately only availible in precut lengths, which even if you get the discount price, the length thing is inconvienent to deal with. Also, the OEM hose EVENTUALLY does harden up, specially in the hotter locations. The generic hose from the auto parts store, by comparison, is usually a pathetic, inferior product which hardens and cracks in a few years of use.

I got their tacoma kit about year ago, I getting one for my fj60 soon

don't take this wrong, but...

you're a fool to pay $100 for the 'kit' they give you. just buy the $40 worth of hose from mcmaster carr and you'll have EXACTLY the same thing as they give you. there's not a single specialty piece of hose used in any of that. i'm willing to even bet $1 that they in fact use mcmaster carr to begin with.

Is the silicone stuff actually designed to take a vaccuum?

Yes. I've had it in for over a year with zero problems. Just make sure you use the thick walled stuff.

i couldnt find silicone local and i wanted to get it done. so 20 bucks and 45 minutes later i can actually say....wow. it actually did wonders. smoother idle and dont need to run with the choke on for ten minutes after the first start up anymore.

i would HIGHLY recommend speding the $15 on the emissions manual. it /very/ clearly illustrates all vacuum hose routing in addition to methods for testing all the other emissions equipment on the vehicle. reading through it was invaluable to knowing how everyhing works together.
