How loud is a 3" exhaust?

If your truck isn't force induction, I would avoid anything larger than 2.5" for performance reasons. The 3" pipe will resonate and drone more than rumble due to the low RPMs that these engines run at.

Shaggy i have no drone. Yes the plan is one day to supercharge it (looking more like a wishlist due to employment issues since 2009) but at 100km/h (our max usually) in 5th gear with my tyres and my radio it's not an issue. It depends on how it's setup.
The place i got mine done at have done quite a few and they soon figured out that "drone" was a big issue with customers coming back complaining and so they modified their installs.

For Benjie, here's video 1, the sound is best in the first part as it gets a bit noisy later...and i only hit 90km/h right at the end.

Second one is much louder, but is in "portrait mode". but sounds awesome but i dont get out of third gear except right at the end:

EDIT: and a BIG edit - remember my windows are down and i am driving aggressively, so it's intentionally loud.

That sounds sweet, I will have to talk to the exhaust guys and see what they say. I just don't want it to loud as I will have to drive 4000km at the end of the year NT - NSW and where I live now you have to drive 300km to get anything so a drone would defiantly annoy me. Do you think ceramic coating is worth the $500?

Benjie,

the Beaudesert Exhaust is supposed to be a good one. My setup is a lot different.
And it was intentionally different. The actual system is a Black Widow i think (been too long), i couldnt afford stainless, but i have the hi-flow CATs as imentioned and i have ceramic coated Pacemakers but a different end muffler.

Bullet Cars use a customised Genie set of headers/extractors, also ceramic coated at their recommendation, and you can buy the Genies from any Genie reseller. They are bigger than my Pacemakers in terms of diameter. If i do supercharge it and the Pacemakers don't measure up...then i'll need to get the Genies. However, Tom from Bullet said the Pacemakers should be fine at 5 PSI boost.

You will get performance and economy with the Beaudeserts and they will have had similar experience years ago with droning and there wont be any.

Double check over at lcool.org and do a search there.

Beaudesert advertise heavily on the 4WD Action magazines and their monthly DVDs. The sell a lot of exahust systems nationally.

Most people recommend the Xede piggyback ECU be installed and tuned in conjunction with a new exhaust, but at $1200 i couldnt justify it without the supercharger. I can see it rounding out my current install, ummm but nope...not at $1200.
cheers
