Looks great! It would be interesting to know what if any HP was picked up with your new exhaust system. How big of a job was installing just the headers? Plenty of clearance for them?

Wow, that looks great! If I may impose, can you post a sound clip or video so we can hear what it sounds like?

mr spressomon! good to hear from you!

i dropped the beast off on Wednesday morning and picked it up Thursday afternoon. They forgot to do the photos so i asked them to do it today...well yesterday now, but Friday. My insurance co will need pics anyway.
The Pacemakers have an install guide downloadable from their website which says it's about a 4 hour install but i think that's if you've done it before.

More like 6 - 8 hours for the home mechanic that kinda knows his/her landcruiser 4.7L V8.

Mine was custom in that i am planning for a future install of a Harrop supercharger so i wanted a 3 inch single system instead of a 2 or 2.5 inch.

My Scanguage II hasn't shown any economy gains.....mainly, as i PM'd you and hoser, it sounds so damn good you just want to leave it in a lower gear.

i did take out onto the Princes Highway/freeway for an hour at our two limits of 100km/h and 110km/h and the Scanguage showed pretty much what i was getting (fuel economy) when i changed to the K&N air filter....but bear in mind...i was playing around with cruise control and testing out the acceleration of the beast too.

I now have a first gear i am happy to use on the road instead of getting into second gear asap as i mentioned in the PM.

The acceleration is there - typically before the exhaust install i'd go to 3000 RPM and change gears from 1st through 4th (it's a manual remember)....but i have the novelty factor now where i'm going to 4000 RPM sometimes just to see what it can do. Bearing in mind i now have 112k kms on the clock....it still sounds amazing. And the deceleration sound is like whoah!....

The sooner i get a video uploaded somewhere the better so you guys and gals can hear it. My one concern is that it might be a little too loud as it IS turning heads if i sink the right boot into it! But i am used to that having owned an Aussie muscle car, a Monaro, for 13 years with an exhaust from the same company - Performance Exhaust.

I'll just have to take off slowly from home so as not to piss off my neighbours now!
Weird how i couldn't even hear that it was a V8 even in car parks with all my windows down before i got this install! I think our stock exhaust here is way different to the USA spec.

I'll let you know when i have a video link to share
cheers

looking back at my posts.....wow it looks like i have some oil/fluid leakage issues around the uni joints....
fek Toyota servicing. "everything is fine".

now that i own it outright i'll have to get those leaks or splashes checked out. meh.
gonna try and get an iPhone 3G (i dont have the 3GS) audio clip of the exhaust until i can get a video recorder...i was playing around with it today (yesterday now) .....but it was too windy....

i'll get a startup sound bite, and revving it a little...and see if the iPhone can handle that.

driving it today on a mountainous drive from Trafalgar to Mirboo North (Victorians in Oz may know that road) wow.......previously i'd feel the engine struggling.....now....it's like going from a 33.6 kb modem to broadband! I forget i'm in third gear when i should be in fourth sometimes!! wow is the word.

take care
peter

Peter,
The lube spray underneath your rig just appears to be the result of an overzealous grease job of the u-joints and driveshaft slip yoke.

thanks Dan for that info.
i'll get the sound and video up asap...it truly has changed the driveability of the beast.
my fuel economy will be a bit on the low side coz i have this smile on my face that cannot be wiped off.

interestingly the Scanguage II showed me i got better economy on the 110km/h limited highway/freeway than the 100km/h same.

i still need to get pics from in the engine bay. i'll do that in the morning. If i have to take off the plastic cover i will.

Apparently i can get the 4.7L 'cruiser engine bay looking a little like this.....(possible subscription required...not sure...over at lextreme.com) 4L Lexus V8 in a HiLux...obviously i dont have the SuperCharger installed....yet...it's coming....
but given the new exhaust and the power i have now? Suspension fix up is what i need first!!

thread is here ...scroll down a bit for this pic and others.

comments welcomed if you know.

I'm pretty sure the headers I have are the same (but uncoated) and still not fitted so I have some pics that might help watchers:

jon

i was hoping they would lie down the exhausts for the before and after but the installer guy "forgot"...despite it saying TAKE PHOTOS on the build sheet.

that's ok.i took it back, they took off my skid plates and took the photos i have posted.

i got mine ceramic coated coz of the research i did about superchargers and heat even tho i probably can't afford the supercharger for another year or two!! hehe.

i was surprised how small the Pacemakers were tho. 100TD mentioned the Genies were bigger in terms of specs....and my original choice of a custom system from Bullet Cars in Queensland (Oz State) were "custom made by Genie" too.
However, my decision was based on what i posted earlier....getting info and experience with the installer.

i also had another company spruking their wares (selling their product) and it looked good....
custom made extractors, high flow cats, etc...and a UNI-Chip add on.

Two issues with them.

1. UNI Chip....you need to go to an authorised UNI chip dealer to have it tuned. Well...when i'm in the Simpson Desert 1200KMs away from anywhere with my laptop and an OBDII reader/scanner/programmer? Nope cant be done. Easily at least.

2. Also, this company was recommending a "fuel atomiser/atomizer" from Europe that would improve my fuel economy. They cut open your fuel tank and insert some weirdass device that atomises my petrol/gasolene thus giving me better fuel economy.

Cut open my fuel tank. Insert something in there...atomises my fuel......Yeah.
Hang on, it's Elvis on the ....oh nevermind...

Right....Credability...gone right there. PM me if you want to know who they are!!

Get an Xede, or other 3rd party piggy back ECU....then you have a chance of anyone in the outback or whereever in at least tuning the car so you can get it home or a major city instead of a proprietary aftermarket thing like the UNI Chip where you HAVE to be an authorised dealer to use it.

anyway, those extractors/headers look the same as mine

the comments i got from Performance Exhaust were from the "Landcruiser guy" around that i ordered a 3 inch single vs 2.5 inch.

"i wish i had got that now". or words similar.
cheers

Jon i think those extractors/headers are the ones!!
mate i have to either buy a new digital cam or talk to some friends that i need to say "hello" to.
hehe

the reason i posted the HiLux pics....was

1) the valve / rocker covers will fit the 4.7 (supposedly....not verified..)
2) And the man knows His HiLux,

be sure to keep an eye on my LC.
it's all good!

I would have liked coated but it would have complicated the transaction quite a lot. None of the Pacemaker dealers I contacted wanted to deal with the UK so they had to come via a friend of a friend kind of route. I'll wrap them if I can't get them coated for sensible money this end. At least one of my OEM manifolds is blowing so I thought I might as well get some headers to fix that and then maybe at a later date do something about the rest of the exhaust.

wildsmith, your 100 is Left Hand Drive, correct? We will be awaiting your install.
Still Right Hand Drive here. I just thought the side by side pic would help any LHD owners see they are handed and probably won't fit.

audio from iPhone

i put my phone on the ground and used the Voice Memo app to record this.
I started it up whilst standing out of the car - i didn't rev it at all.
sorry it's in Quicktime/mpeg4 but that's all i have at the moment.
if i can convert it to mp3 then i'll update the post
cheers
peter

edit: here's one that i did while driving holding the phone out the window and trying to steer and change gear with the other hand. It was really windy so it's not as good as it could be!

Sounds nice. How noisy is it inside with the windows up? I had a big bore exhaust etc on a car years ago and it sounded great but drove us mad on trips with a loud drone all the way so I'm being very cautious about changes.

Jon it's not too bad. Once i get it into fifth gear on the freeway/highway at 100km/h and 110km/h i barely notice it now. If it's in fourth at similar speeds i can hear it, but i've had the radio turned down for a while!!

I have the added wind noise from the snorkel and noise from Cooper STTs as well though.

I'm about to go on a very long trip on Wednesday - Lake Eyre via Broken Hill so i'll know for sure - but given i was out for four hours on Saturday the noise as i mentioned didn't bother me. The guys have done a few LCs before and know which muffler(s) to use as early on (quite a few years ago) they had one guy come back and complained about the droning.
cheers
peter

ps i hope to have a video posted tomorrow evening Oz time. (around this time actually)
