Approximately 10 years after the last FJ60 was built, Toyota began discontinuing it's parts at an accelerated rate. After about 15 years, a very large percentage of parts instantly disappeared seemingly over night. Now, thirty years later… it's slim pickens indeed… Just when the parts are needed most.

As sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, the same fate awaits the LC200, but the implications are of a greater magnitude as this vehicle is highly dependent upon proprietary electronics from which Toyota is the only source. And once Toyota decides to discontinue just one key module and yours happens to be burned out… the car is toast. To the crusher it goes….

Does anyone think there will be any LC200s left on the road 20 yrs from now? Does anyone care?

I doubt it.

The fact that the 200 shares parts with the Tundra, and this cheap and widely available Chinese aftermarket parts and the dawn of the Internet has changed a bunch since the 1980s when the 60 series was phased out. I could be wrong though.

I have a 1982 FJ 40 & when I first got it you could buy everything for it, Toyota apparently produced lots of spare parts for it when they were still making them. Some parts fit other Toyota models so in that case Toyota produced replacement parts for FJ 40s after they were no longer produced. The reason FJ 40 parts have become hard to come by is the same reason other Toyota model's parts are becoming difficult to find and the reason Toyota did not produce a 2012 Land Cruiser. The reason is the Tsunami of 2011 that hit Japan and washed Toyota's stock of OEM replacement parts, among other things into the Pacific ocean.
Technically all those parts still exist, those susceptible to salt water probably aren't worth using, if you thought Toyota OEM replacement parts were expensive before, imagine what it would cost to fund a project to recover Toyota OEM parts from the floor of the Pacific!
It's unbelievable that Japan has been able to rebuild much of their manufacturing facilities from scratch, quickly enough that most of the world's consumers wouldn't notice even a hiccup in the availability of Japanese products, with the exception of 2012 Land Cruisers. I'm sure 2012 Land Cruisers weren't the only Japanese product that wasn't available after the Tsunami, I'm just not aware of what they were.

Well they did offer a 2012 Land Cruiser and LX 570 ( around the world- can be identified from the VIN as well )

It was the first year of the updated 200's, however in the US Toyota skipped and went to 2013 ( even the VIN model year identifier was different ) ( same for the LX in Canada )

The last 2011's rolled off the assembly line in December 2011 and in January 2012 they started making the 2012 for the rest of the world and 2013 for the US. Rest of the world started getting 2013's from mid August 2012.

I wouldn't worry about the 200, you will see them on the road for many years to come.

I read online that the LC/LX plant was not affected by the tsunami. Some suppliers might of been affected that supplied some parts for the 200's?
