How is everyone's PlastiDip holding up?

So I thought long and hard about using some PlastiDip on my car, especially when I saw the guy use it on the whole car:
DYC Home - Plasti Dip For Your Car - Resources & More at DipYourCar.com NEW Glossifier. I was excited I was going to try and do my Pearl White LX in a matte white.



I am worried though that with the bugs that are in good ol' Nebraska that having to wash them or the bugs themselves will damage the PastiDip.

So I was curious to the people how theirs is holding up in general or to any rocks or bugs?

are you thinking about doing the entire car?
 
The problem with plastidip, is you really cant touch it up very easily. Thus, if you mess it up, its either a lot of painting or a lot of ugly. I would not cover an entire care with a "temporary" solution like plastidip. If you want a new paint job, go that route. you could also put a matte clear coat over your existing paint. I could be wrong, but i think a couple people on here have done that.
 
It has held up great on my front grill. I dont have the bug issue that you do in Nebraska though. My biggest cleaning job was cleaning off MUD from a recent trip in Baja, Mex. I didnt have to really scrub it. But there was a pressure sprayer on it and a rag to wipe it off.
 
My thought process was for $357.00 +shipping, why not, it includes the sprayer and if it would work out okay I could do my 80 as well and wouldn't have to buy the sprayer again. I don't think it would work for someone like me. I realize that it is a temporary fix, and I thought it would be fun to see the LX in matte white with matching matte white rims.
 
Where are you guys finding spray on plasti dip in a can? I went to Lowes and Home Depot and they both only have the can that you dip stuff into. No spray can.

I picked up a can of spray plasti dip in Black at the Oceanside Home Depot, not sure if that's close to where you are in SD
 
Before you paint the entire car try it on your front bumper or wheels and see how they hold up. I get super paranoid with bug juice on my front since the acid might eat away your paint if you don't wash it off. But then again washing the paint a lot will also cause paint wear.
 
Yall must have some serious bugs in Cali!

We got skeeters in Arkansas that coat your windshield and grill buy i've never seen the "acid" pull paint off that was OEM painted.
 
I know plastidip is good for a lot of things, but over in the 80 tech i've seen lots of guys use it and have it get ruined by any real abuse. I would go with a non-textured bedliner. Durabak has lots of clolrs in gloss and matte with or without texture. It may be a little more, but lots of guys love how the bedliner holds up to abuse.
 
Plasidip does not handle long term IR exposure well at all. I Plastidipped some fittings on my race trailer, which sits in the open most of its life. The finish on the dipped parts degraded quite quickly.
 
I have my entire hood covered with plastidip and have scrubbed it , wheeled it and it has held up fine. The issue I have is that the finish was not even I have some areas where small granular spray came down , and made the surface bumpy which holds dust and is very hard to clean. My hood was already messed up so this is better looking then what it was but not better then a good paint job. The cool part is if you don't like it.... peel and do it over. (which is what I am going to do) I think it has helped reducing rock chips on the very front edge of the hood.
 
^ seriously. dont cover your whole truck in that.
 
I have plastidip'd the trim and bumpers. They held up well for about 6 months. But all it took was one trail ride and a blast through the mud pit. It doesn't hold up well if your truck is active. I ended up color matching the trim for under $200 at a body shop and I painted both my bumpers with bed liner. Couldn't be any happier with how it all holds up now after two recent trail rides.
