No idea what it is called - it is in the fuel tank breather circuit. Plastic box, inlet, outlet and what looks like a pleated filter inside:

I broke mine while trying to extend my breather vent and loop it.

I pulled it out and put a barb in it's place...

I'll report back on any codes, fumes, etc.

Also found my K&N filter came apart some time since last summer.

Fun times.

Good news is I put new rotors pads and parking brake shoes in.

Tomorrow might be eim keith panhard correction and OME 2724 day.

It's a part of the charcoal canister, plumbed into the breather line that ends in the fuel filler neck. It's pretty important. Those with an LRA aux tank may know this filter well.

Two things - make sure the end of the breather line is plumbed to a high point. I don't recall if you have LRA, but if you don't, keep the plumbing to the stock fill neck. That's a clean area that helps breather stay cleaner and doesn't require maintenance. Otherwise the breather filter becomes a maintenance point that will get caked with offroad silt and moisture.

I'd say not too important. I broke mine in the same location when installing the loop line as well. I have about 2-3k mi over 2 months without and have had zero issues with codes or filling up either tank. I cut it apart and it looks like there is some activated charcoal media in it so I'm guessing it is to help with fuel vapor smell only. Otherwise, it does nothing to limit airflow in any direction. If any, it may help as a "catch" for moisture, but with the high loop on the aftermarket breather, that should minimize moisture intrusion.

How mine looks without it. The part is about $70 from Toyota so if I get any codes this summer I'll swap a new one back in.

That is a bit concerning about the K&N filter. For almost $30, I would not expect that.

Yes, I have a 12.5 LRA and was modifying to loop the line like you suggested. It loops up over the filler and then back down.

Thank you. That looks pretty much like mine now. I looped up over the top of the filler but otherwise the same. Nice to hear that it isn't throwing codes. We went for a long drive this afternoon and so far, so good!
