I hate to say it but it's almost impossible. Perhaps if you can find an angle, loophole or an inside importer you may be able to do it. I wish you could and I wish you luck.

As stated, it can be done. The PO brought mine in and said it was pretty easy (he uses an importer). Taco is right though, it has been talked about numerous time.

Here's a link: http://nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/VIG_Canada07032.html
You don't need an RI/ICI if you have the magic letter. Toyota Canada no longer handles "letters of conformity" for vehicles manufactured before 1994. You need to contact Toyota Motor Sales (USA) 1-800-331-4331. They will send you a set of forms to fill out VIN, and other info off the VIN plate, and you get an answer in three weeks. Pay the duty(2.5%) and you should be good to go, PROVIDED THAT this is indeed a Canadian market vehicle. If it is from an overseas market, you're SOL (believe me I know first hand:frown: ). Needless to say this would be wise to do before purchasing. I'll PM you the # of a customs supervisor in WA state. Then if they guys at CPB give you a hard time, you will have the word of a supervisor to back you up. Good luck!

I was unable to get a letter from Toyota when I imported my BJ42. It may be different now.

I believe the RI fee was something like $300. I think it was well worth it, especially when my state's vehidle lic. people started taking an interest in it and they did not know the rules for importation.

I don't know 1 person that has gotten a letter even for a Canadian truck.

TMS USA is still issuing letters but they aren't really worth anything except as proof that Toyota agrees your vehicle is a Canadian market truck - and that does count for something apparently as the importers I have talked to like you to have the letter if possible.

Of course, they will only issue them to the registered owner of the vehicle and that means someone in Canada AFAIK.
