How good ARE these Aisin winches?

Finally got a chance to pull my cable (oops), run out my cable and test this winch for operation. Seems to be a solid winch & am looking forward to a chance to test it under a load. I am very surprised to see the owners manual saying it's max load is only 1000Kg (2200 Lbs). Could the makers of such a tough vehicle as a Hj-61 really be that short-sighted, or are they just under rating it for safety reasons? Has anyone out there put the Aisin winches to the test to see if they stand up to pulling a 6000lb truck out of deep mud?

Lots of people test these winches, as have I, and they are very good.

The rating system is different than what you are used to, so pay no attention. Rigging often has a SWL that is much higher than what you might expect - have a look at what a 5 tonne marine winch looks like sometime (in a word: BIG).

The upright is an 8,000 lb and the planetary is a 10,000 lb winch.

The upright has about 145' of cable on it. Much smoother, but a little slower than a Warm M8274.

Thanks John. When I read that it had a 1000Kg rating, I thought of replacing it, but then thought that Toyota has built such a brilliant & tough truck, they wouldn't put a winch on it that couldn't do the job.
I made up my mind to leave it on and make it work, if it ever proves too weak, then I'll replace it.
Where on the Island are you?

The Aisin A1000 planetary is 3600kg or close to 8000lbs. IMOP they are adequate .
