How do I figure shock length after s/o on M416?

I did a spring over on my M416 last summer. I cant figure the correct way to measure for new shocks. If I just measure from shock mounting post to mounting post they would fit but would not compress or extend when needed. http://www.pbase.com/kai38/image/28381303
Anyone know how to measure for the correct fit?

You have the old ones? How about do a measure of the distance you increased the dimensions? if you raised the trailer by 3- inches or so(thickness of spring pack?) then you could just add that to the old shock and order one from Napa or so that is that new measurement.... did I make sense?

Did you ever get this one figured out.

I did the same thing and struggled with finding a shock the correct height without coming up with a new lower mounts. then it dawned on me that I could swap the lower mounts left for right and that would move the mount to the other side of the axle. Doing this picks up the same distance that you loose doing the spring over. The shocks are at a more shallow angle, but it seems to work. You can see pictures of the setup here:

Just completed the same thing on a M101 and it works very well....
