How come the map color doesn't change between daytime color and night color?

On my 04 LC running version 4.2, no matter how I set the headlight switch, the map color always displays the color set for daytime. I get the buttons to select for night time, but the daytime color always displays regardless of the color selected for night. Do I have to erase a memorized setting? Thanks for any help?

Have you tried playing with the dimmer for the interior lights? On my wife's '03 the map color can be manually switched between daytime and nighttime settings by clicking the far setting on the dimmer switch.

Day-night function

Exact same thing happened to me. Make sure the interior lights dimming wheel isn't "clicked" all the way to the right. See the attached page from the manual.

Dredging up an old post here - but I'm stumped. My '06 is stuck in day mode. This sucks. At night, the nav' screen is like a headlight. It won't go into night mode. I keep just turning it off.

I've played with the little brightness wheel - it's NOT in the clicked or brightest position. I've scrolled through every page I can find on the nav' menus, and cannot find a Day Mode option.

Anyone know how I can get my Night Mode back?

No "Auto" mode option

Note to Toyota: Please go buy a Honda - any Honda - and reverse engineer their nav system. They cracked the code on this years ago. Just stick to what you're good at and give up on the nav stuff... 'cause ya kinda suck at it ;)

On mine, I have to be in "Night Mode" in order to turn Day Mode on or off.

For my '04, page 130 of the nav manual has the instructions for setting the auto day/night mode. Its the last thing under Display: Other Settings. Probably a different page number in the '06, but it's probably in there somewhere. Much easier to find in the manual than guessing where it is by scrolling through a rather unfriendly settings interface on the nav screens.

I think the solution is to turn the ignition off and on 10 times, while clicking the dimmer wheel on and off (the click), while turning the headlights on and off 30 times. Well, that's what got my night mode to show up.

I really think the programmers who Toyota hired to work on the Nav', actually worked for Chrysler - or AMC - and they where high most of the time. From the completely incoherent menu architecture to the comical voice commands - we actually play with it like a game...
Us (family taking turns): "FM 99.7"
System: "Showing Restaurant Icons"

Thanks for the help!

You neglected to mention the part about pressing/releasing the brake 37 times along with the lights, dimmer and ignition.

Note that the process is different during Daylight Savings Time:grinpimp:
