My '99 has developed a very loud creak from the driver's side front suspension area. It's so loud it is almost embarassing to drive it. If you push down on the right front fender it makes a sound very like a door creaking in a horror movie. The noise is there both on the down and up movement.

Pulled the wheel and tried spraying various parts one at a time with WD followed by levering the hub up and down with a board. Sound is still there but now is more like a squeak. Put the wheel back on and bounced the fender. Sound is gone.
Checked again in about 15 minutes and noise is back louder than ever.

Upper and lower ball joints are good. Is there any component of the suspension more likely to make this noise? Or a better way of diagnosing? Any help much appreciated.

I know you say your lower ball joints are good.....but I had that same issue one time with crazy loud squeaking and it was a ball joint. The boot was torn and water got in and did damage....

Do you have sliders? If so, loosen them all the way and re-tighten. A bunch of us just discussed this a few days ago. Sounds appears to be coming from the suspension but it does not.

If you don't have sliders, check the other stuff. ;-)

It may be time for bushings...mine is a little embarrassing as well. :meh:. This is a OLD video, about 30K later and some new bushings she's a "little" quieter, speed bumps are very annoying and loud.

I've had a loud creak from the front passenger side when turning the wheels to the right, stopped or rolling, for the last week. I thought it was a steering part. I jacked up the front end and cycled the steering and it was silent, but I noted the same creak as I was jacking up that side.

My upper ball joint boot is torn. This is at full droop with the front end up on jack stands:

Indeed it was the lower ball joint. Boot was good but the joint was dry, corroded, and worn.
By contrast the upper ball joint looked new and the grease was still the original color.
Got the lower joint from Carquest for $76. Three Fives made in Japan, in a Raybestos box. No one else locally had it in stock, were much more expensive, and needed three days to get it. Supplied c-clip was thicker than factory.
Disassembly was straightforward using Harbor Freight joint seperator and c-clamp press. Opening in separator was too narrow so needed to be ground.
Unplugged the ABS wire in the engine compartment and removed it from the clips.
Much easier than trying to unbolt.
Very glad to have had help re-installing knuckle assembly.
Now the front end is startlingly quiet.

My car has the same noise but when turning the wheel, you guys said it was the balljoint, about how much would i xpect to pay at a shop to replace the balljoint? And is there only one balljoint that i have to replace on each side? Also, how long can i go without replacing it.
