Hey guys

Not sure when the horn stopped working, but it is not right now :)

Upgraded to Premium Horns and realized nothing happened. I know 3-4 months ago the stock horn worked.

- Relay replaced, no change
- Relay doesn’t click when pressing horn
- steady power to fuse and relay
- jumping the relay gets the horns to work
- steering wheel position doesn’t help (all way up, all way down, middle; all way right turn slowly going all way left turn)
- took the airbag/ horn cover off, no dirt, springs intact, all cables look fresh/ clean and connectors all connected

All that tells me three possible outcomes:
- clock spring bad
- any other ground issue
- didn’t check the contacts on the steering wheel properly

Any advice what to test/ make sure/ do before I dig into clock spring replacement?

Would be glad if you would tell exactly where to put a wire in as I’m an electrical noob :)

Edit:
No other electrical issue beside D light not working. But that’s not related to the steering wheel…
Airbag light off, cruise control working and lighting up,… everything else on the steering wheel works.

Did you check the ground wire coming to the relay from the clock spring/steering wheel. That is the switch to trigger the load side. If no ground signal, check the wire for continuity from the steering wheel to the pin at the relay (ground wire).

Do you know which wire it is? color or so?
Can I access it with the cover on or do I have to remove it?

So. Tested the ground wire from the back of the airbar cover to the connector on the clock spring.
That works and is fine.

Guess now I need to find the connector “behind the steering wheel” or the foot well to test from the solder spot on the cover across the clockspring to the other side.

Does anyone where it is and which cable to test?

Maybe obvious, but make sure your airbag is unplugged before you start probing wires. 😀

Disconnected the battery :)
And waited 5-10min before doing it

Just found that the horn works with the alarm button. Will give this solution a shot tonight and see.

Fed up with my stupid f****** horn :-D

tried multiple spots for continuity, attached a wire in multiple places that are metal and the horn still doesn't work.
I know the connection from relay to horn is fine, because once I jump it the horns work.
I also know the contact in the "airbag cover thingy" contact as I get continuity in every single corner pressing the horn.
I know the relay doesn't click when pressing (neither the old, not the new one) and the fuse is also replaced although it was fine.

So I'm somehow looking between relay and clock spring...

How big is the chance the clock spring is bad when the airbag light is still working fine?
Can somebody tell me which cable on which connector I have to measure? There seems to be an endless number of wires down there :-D

I'm shortly before ordering the clock spring, but on the other hand I want to make sure this solves it.

It would also help if somebody can show exactly from where to where I have to bypass this stupid grounding issue... :-D I even tried to put the wire between the horn button contacts and connect it to the chassis...

Did you happen to solve this? Having the exact same issue in my '02 LX...

Did you check the EWD?

Hey guys, sry was traveling.

Nope, not solved yet.

My son has this very problem on his 2000 LX470. When you fix yours, how about stopping by to give him a kick start.

will do whenever I figure it out ^^

mine doesn't work on my 06, but it does work with the alarm.

I guess I'll be digging in to the harness in the dash / in the wheel this weekend.

My horn stopped working a while back. I pushed the steering wheel forward at the top and it somehow got the ground closer. Try flexing the steering wheel, that might help. It's been working fine since then.

Didn't have too much time the past week to dig deeper, but ordered a new clockspring. If all goes well Fedex delivers today and I hopefully chose the correct one 🙃
And then I'll install today and can provide feedback ;)

Took some time, but tackled it today

Clockspring/ spirale cable it is!!!

20min job, horn works! :)
