I bought two new horns for my 88 fj62 and found both horns work when wired directly to a battery. But only Horn#1 works, on both of the two locations, for the 62. Horn #2 does not work at all but makes a clicking sound on both locations. The weird thing is when horn 1 and horn 2 are hooked to the system , both don't work but I still hear the faint clicking sound. I switched the wires around for horn 2 thinking there could be a certain polarity for it to work but had no luck. How do I get horn 2 to work by the current wiring system? Thanks alot for your help.

Check your ground connections.

I had a similar issue. I just bought a Hella horn kit and put in a new relay and wires. Much easier to figure out than tracing down 17 year old wiring.

You can buy a relay from an auto parts store for about $3. This and 10 feet of wire ought to serve to make both horns work when wired in to the switched power from the battery.

Where is the horn relay for the 62? Thanks!

One of the great things about having a field service manual set. I COULD go look it up, but can't scan and post wiring diagrams and such.

Can anybody help Archie out?

There's no horn relay on a FJ62. Only switch is the normally open (NO) contact on the steering wheel. The cuicuit is hot through the horn to the steering wheel with the steering wheel contact closing the cuicuit to ground. When I added an aftermarket horn several years ago (long since gone) I had to add a seperate auxiliary relay to the circuit to isolate the new horn. Just grap a 20 or 30 amp relay and fuse from any parts store. The coil for the relay replaces the OEM horn. Then connect the the new horn to the normally open contacts with one side to power w/ a 5 amp fuse for protection and the otherside to ground. Basically same as wiring aux fog or trail lights.

I'm in the same boat w/ the scanner - worked great w/ WIN 98 won't scan jack with XP.
