Hey guys, I'm on call the night before but I should be off at about noon.

Gotta question for y'all. How long do you think it would take to weld some trail gear sliders to a 60?

It will take me about 3 hrs to get over there so that would be like 3pm to where y'all are at.

Do you think it is possible to get it done before it is too late?

Let me know what you think. I haven't bought them yet but it is a project i have been dreaming about for years.

thanks for hosting,
Patrick

Patrick- that'd be 4pm local time (we're on Eastern time here). I'd guess that's a little late to start a project of that magnitude. The project size doesn't scare me at all- just the late time of starting. Any possibility your schedule will change between now and then?

And it's about 2 hours from Anderson to here.

I was just wondering? I can't/don't know how to weld and I wanted some protection for my 60 before i took her out to play this year. My schedule is pretty unflexable (kids get sick way too much) and the hospital says I have to physically be there if they are sick.

how long y'all going to be working for? I might be able to lend an somewhat experineced hand if ya'll are working into the night. if not I will just sleep....
Good luck with what ever y'all end up doin

Patrick

I don't know how late people are going to stay. I'll PM you my cell phone number and when you get off work- you can call me. If the general consensus is that people are sticking around quite a bit longer- then come on over- if it's pretty well breaking up by that point- you can save yourself the trip.

I'm going to start a bit of a roll call to see who's coming next Saturday and what we're working on.

May 16th. 9am EST, Location: Elkhart, IN

Chime in to be put on the list.

Confirmed attending, with work to be potentially done

jrb23 (Jimmy) 99 4Runner- diff drop, ball joints, TRE

Would a solid axle swap on a first gen 4runner using an fj80 front axle and coil overs be to much for a tech day??? Maybe if there is time left over would do you think we could squeeze in an central tire inflation system as well??? By the way, what is a rachet used for???:D

I would like a computer controlled, auto leveling, bag suspension, complete with gyro-scope...:grinpimp:

I'm towing the FJ50 down. I expect it done by the end of the day. I'll be at Little Johns while ya'll finish it for me.

I don't know if I'm coming to Elkhart that weekend or not. Depends on the wife. If I am I plan to stop by.

Little Johns closed up- something about the Health Department. You'll have to find a different watering hole.

Hey, I wanted to know if it is possible for me to come down for tech day. I dont know how this works so you need to fill me in.

Arjun- the process is extremely informal. You can show up anytime that works for you- you can bring a truck to work on- or just show up, help others and hang out. I don't know if we'll accomplish anything, other than just get to know other Cruiserheads. We'll order pizza at lunch time, I'm sure some beer will be consumed. When guys either are wrapped up for the day or just generally feel like its time to get back on the road- you leave.

I'll PM you the address, hope to see you next Saturday.

Luke

Location:

Lefever Plumbing & Heating, Inc.
510 S. 2nd Street
Elkhart, IN 46516

3 miles South off Indiana Toll Road (80/90) exit 92.

2nd Street runs one-way headed North only. You'll want to head South on Main Street or 3rd Street, then jog over to 2nd at the South end of downtown (near the post office). Don't cross the railroad tracks, that's too far South.

Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM ish depending on interest (Eastern Time)

I have two floor jacks and 8 jack stands. If you're worried that that won't be enough- bring more.

Bring your rig to work on, including the parts you'll think you'll need. There is a pretty well stocked NAPA store 2 blocks away that has Saturday hours. If there are any special tools you think you'll need- bring them. Bring a couple of dollars to throw towards pizza/beer. Bring your health insurance card so that if someone drops a Cruiser on your leg- you can go to the hospital.

My cell phone is five seven four three two zero six eight six nine- call if you need directions.

Unfortunately, due to Customs being unusually expedient, there is a major shipment coming in on friday and it all needs to be unloaded over the weekend. So that what i'll be doing...

I was looking forward to meeting up with you guys. I'll definitely try to catch up with you guys this summer sometime.

When is the next tech day?

Well- tech day came and went. We accomplished several things.

Jimmy (jrb23 (I think))- got a trim packer into his drivers side rear coil spring to level out his 4runner. He also replaced the drivers side inner tie rod end. We attempted to do a front differential drop to improve half shaft operating angles- but several bolts were seized holding on the skid plate and we decided to work on other stuff.

Dave finished up his tool chest, recovery gear box thingey including mounting a fire extinguisher in preparation for the FJ Cruiser Summit in Colorado.

I ripped out the seats and seat mounts in Bugly- because it was an ugly execution, using the OEM seat mounts and some angle iron. Bent up some 1.75" .120 tube to tie the seats into the cage, and now it looks like someone knew what they were doing. (We know that's not true- but that's what it looks like.)

I wish we would have had better attendance- but all-in-all we had a good time getting to know some new people and some work was accomplished.

Maybe next time- more people will be able to attend.
