Homelink unit differences

Anybody knows the difference between the 2 units? I am interested in the highlighted piece. Does that black piece has any function?

I think the lx models came with 2 leds in that location for ambient lighting. My 04 land cruiser is like the top picture. No leds.

Thank a lot for your reply. My LC100 does came with simple overhead console (NO homelink), but I managed to buy a homelink version console in ivory color. This came from a LX470 as I could not find a LC version for good price.
There are already lights on the overhead console, what are those additional LED ambient lights for?

They just shine a low level amber light in the cabin so you can see the center console a bit better at night. One of those luxury car "perks" or just something else to break.
