A friend pointed me to this forum, Just thought I would say hi, introduce myself as it were to the local guys.

I have a 72 I picked up recently, which is currently being torn down in my garage. The rig has a SBC 307, SM420, SOA, full cage, its not bad actually. Looks like someone at one time sent some money/time on it, but then it was handed off to owners who spent time ruining things :) lots of shoddy work.

I'm re plumbing the fuel system, gutting a lot of bad wiring, need a master cylinder (leaking), power steering pump on the way (also leaking), also need an entire parking brake assembly. Need to re-re-re-locate the batter back into the engine bay, and fill in the hole cut under the drivers seat where the battery was. Then I'll be removing the add-a-leafs and extended shackles to get it down as low as possible with the SOA conversion. Still unsure as to what my final direction is either keep the SOA, have the front axle cut and turned and install discs. OR swap/trade/buy stock axles and change everything back to spring under. IF I change back to spring under I would likely be running 4" of lift and 33x12.5.

Plan is for now, get the fuel system fixed (It had a cheap-o electric fuel pump, and was running grossly rich) along with the PS pump, and master cylinder, and get a new parking brake. Stock shackles and remove the add a leafs, then it should be road worthy. Hopefully that will be in a couple weeks, waiting for some parts at the moment.

This winter I'll likely park it again and start prep work to fill in the (seemingly millions) of sheet metal screw holes everywhere in the body. Rust is very minimal, save for the real sill which is shot.

Ok I think I remember this rig .... I know center mass from the boards ... Well let's get this thing going ....

Status so mfar.

Just wanted to say thanks to Dan for inviting me to the meeting, hopefully I will have my rig running and be able to look into joining....soon.

I've been able to get quite a bit done, though still have quite a bit to go on the rig. The last of the parts that I have been waiting for should be here Friday, at that point it will just be up to me to get it -operational...or partially operational.

Thus far I have
* removed add-a-leafs, and shims
* removed battery from under drivers seat
* removed a bunch of extraneous wiring, some that went nowhere, some that ran from under the drivers seat (old battery location) to the winch.
* removed lift shackles, replaced with stock
* R&R on parking brake
* replaced u-joints and balanced both drivelines.
* strengthened drivers seat mount.
* removed diamond plate rocker panels.
* installed mechanical fuel pump
* replaced brake master cylinder
* replaced power steering pump.
* new belts, plugs, plug wires.
* removed garbage stereo from the glove box
* remounted windshield, using ALL of the holes in the mounting plates.
* installing new (windshield mount) mirrors (getting powder coated now)
* removed garbage overhead console. Made from diamond plate mounted with sheet metal screws into the roll cage.
* speedo drive gear new o-rings.

To Do (at least the immediate to do list)
* finish running the new fuel lines, supply from tank, vent line, charcoal filter.
* install new rear pinion flange and the drivelines.
* install battery trays, and associated wiring.
* clean up wiring.
* mount and wire Tarus electric fan.
* replace long water pump with short one.

At that point I should be on the road, though not in full dress as it were. The big two items remaining at that point will be cut and turn on the front axle, along with a swap to disc brakes. (I already have an 82 mini truck front axle for the knuckles/birfs). In definitely want to swap to 4 wheel discs eventually, front two at first. Second item would bet getting a proper fuel tank, rear tank with skid plate). Ive got about a million, sheet metal screws, holes to fill in the body, along with a number in various cross members, and in the roll cage.

Thanks, Drake
