Anybody experimented with putting HMMWV rims on their 70 series? They have the cool bennefit of being able to change tires without equipment and with tubeless not tube tires unlike traditional splits. Run flats are also a option, but not something I'd do. Not sure on 16.5" tire choices. Surplus HMMWV tires are really cheap for what they are, but a bit large for most people at 36-37". It's been a long time since I've changed out a HMMWV tire, but it is something you can do without equipment albeit alot more work than a simple split rim with a tube installed. All those bolts to undo. Not sure if they function as a beadlock or not.

You have the same options with any beadlock wheel without having to deal with the 16.5 drawback
I brought it up due to the very cheap price that you can get surplus HMMWV wheels and tires for now. I've seen a few vehicles on the trails running them, but not a LC.

Yea
I understand, but like you mentioned 16.5".
Yeah I did some more looking last night and it would also take a really big spacer to make them work. I see HMMWV rim/tire combos for as low as $135 on Ebay right now. Met a guy in Uwharrie in the spring who got a set of 4 with the good year radial MT 37"s for $500.

Hello,

This is good option.

Would using 37 in. tires require some re-gearing?

It would in my bj-73, but not seriously considering that option now. If you buy the tires and wheels on iron planet or gov planet which handles the auctions of surplus equipment from the government now you can get a really good deal especially if you buy a big lot. Originally early Humvees had 36x12.50 bias ply Goodyear mud terrains. I have seen those on eBay with rims for $135. They quit using those old bias tires 15 plus years ago. Once the switch to radials was made they wouldn't install the new old stock tires. My unit once got an entire tractor trailer load of brand new bias mud terrains from drmo and we used them to make earth works and blast berms on the demolition range. Now that the Humvees are being sold off a lot of tires are being sold at auction and are hitting the market.
