hj75 gear box differences?

Yes they are roughly the same. I learned the hard way when I swapped the 2H for 1HZ and had to swap the input shaft. The guts are the same but the actual case and input shaft cover are different for the newer model. I had to get the newer case for the new shaft, but this may not apply to your situation since yours is a 2H.

Nice to know, so, I wonder if say an earlier 85 trans would just fit into a later and vice versa if the case and cover are slightly different? Wonder if the mounting bolt holes just line up, that would be really good..

Everything lined up except the input shaft cover and gasket had different bolt pattern which necessitated the newer case.

85-89 2H/12HT and 2F/3F have a 10spline output shaft
90+ 1HZ/1HDT/1PZ etc have a 21 spline

This should not be any different from a 1985 to 1988 though, both being 2H or 3F trucks.

The front bearing retainer and the front support bearing are different between the two.

Thank you for replies, so just a few differences when rebuilding the gearbox.

Pardon my ignorance, so then an early h55 would fit onto a later 2h engine and vice versa? As in; same size fly wheel, clutch plate, bell housing, shaft and mount holes?
