HJ75 2h Wilson Switch install Question (1 Viewer)

Hey folks, I've decided to install a "Wilson" switch into my 12v Australian hj75. I'm having starting difficulties and have done some test's, and I believe the timer is the issue. (especially after reading how so many people have issues with the timers and super glow systems)

Now from what I can understand. I'll need a set of 10.5v glow plugs.
Also I won't be using a controller so I'm just going to run power to a push button on the dash, to control a relay which will be sending 12v to the busbar.

From what I have read so far on various thread's this is all I need to do.

Now instead of mixing with the exisiting wiring I'm going to be using new. So am I able to simply remove everything connected to the busbar and run my 12v straight to the busbar therefore being the only thing connected to the glow plugs?

Some of this may not make sense as it's rather late

But my main question is simple. Can i remove everything and simply run 12v to the plug's in order for them to operate.

Just posting a reply to my own thread,

Just explaining myself a bit better.

This is how my current system looks exactly, (ignore all the part numbers)
Can I simply remove the green in order to isolate the plugs and just keep all the original wiring intact

And then add in what I have drawn up

Yes that will work ,but dont hold them on for more than 8 seconds at a time. What have you tested on the orinigal timer?

The 10.5 V GP's take longer to heat up @ 12v, theyre meant for a 24 volt. arent they? I have the NGK 10.5V and sometimes i have to hold mine for like 20 seconds to get a smooth start up, especially when its cold out. and subsequent 5 seconds bursts after starting. no issues with frying. dont hold em for like a minute though!!
The 6v variety work at 12v for a few seconds to get em hot via the controllers(superglow) and then the timer drops down the voltage. usually its the superglow relay that screws up and youre left with a weak glow or none at all.

The 6v ones you do have to watch on manual though.

And that Diagram is bang on sir! maybe make the switch on key power instead of a complete circuit all the time, dont matter though.
Mine completes the relay on/off power circuit off key power instead of the ground circuit.

I did the same to a Daihatsu Diesel I had and I just used to count slowly to 5 and that was plenty to glow enough for a start in freezing below temperatures I count to 7,,, worked a charm and plugs lasted.

I hot wired my 6V plugs straight from the 12V battery only a hand full of times and managed to burn out all glow plugs and possibly the resistors too. Had no idea what I was doing, which is almost always a problem, and glowed for at least 10 seconds each time. In hindsight, I should have disconnected the resistor arm from the bus-bar.

Did you end up using the 10.5V glow plugs?

Since my resistors are done too, I want to put in a switch now and bypass everything to go full manual glow. So I was thinking to change my 6V glow plugs for 10.5V so I don't burn them out?!

Use the old glow plug relay. It will work fine.

Do you have to go through the relay at all? My timer and resistors are gone.
Can't I just hookup a switch directly to the glow plug bar and the battery?

I know this is an old thread, but if anyone who did a Wilson switch and has a 2h engine, I'm looking for a current sensor to go from my resistors to the current plate that goes to the glow plug bus. Mine is all eaten up.

Yeah, but another mudder showed me the same part from Japan is $100 from Amayama. It'll still take a couple weeks to get it so I am trying to see if someone has a used one they're not using cuz they did the Wilson. switch and so I could get my rig up and running sooner. I miss not driving it.

i got mine from amayama, didn't know usa had access to it. It maybe difficult to get a good used one I reckon, 30 years + old. I would miss using my cruiser too.

As far as I know, no one in the US has the current sensor. I think they all order them from Japan.
