What sort gutter mount bracket size do I need to clear an HJ61's high roof in the rear? Would 8" be enough? My HJ61 hasn't arrived yet and I'm trying to come up with roof rack ideas.

Hi Diesel Weasel.

My rack legs are 220mm to the bottom of the cross bar. This JUST provides clearance, perhaps 10mm.

If I were doing it again, I'd be looking for 250mm legs to give adequate clearance and allow for flexing both from the load and the bounce over rough roads. I've got scratches on the roof caused by the flexing.

25.4mm per inch. 8 inches = 200mm = not enough clearance. Need to be looking for 10 inches. Geez, haven't I heard THAT before......

Thanks for the replies. Ok, so my next question is, where do I get such a long leg? The largest I've seen is the 8" con-ferr bulldog. I need something that is (upside down) L shaped as my rack won't be as wide as the roof. Ideas?

Thule makes the longer brackets that will fit an hj61.

I have the high rise rain gutters from Yakima on my 61. I really like them.

man .. I like all your cruiser .. :D

I have the thule 387 gutter mount brackets. They are about 8 inches high and clear no problem. They would be good to put a basket on or use as a base.
