Here's a pic of the oil 'weep' on the side of my 2H motor. Anyting to worry about or just something to keep an eye on?

If my eyes aren't deceiving me, that's coming from the valve cover?
If so, try re-torquing the valve cover bolts. Otherwise, it's likely the gasket.
If it's actually coming from the head, then same advice, just not as cheap or
easy.
:D
If it's weeping oil now, and you do nothing, it'll most likely start seaping next.
That's usually followed by leaking, and then by dripping. You want to stop it
before it gets to gushing. :P

OK, rather than taking the pump off and finding it didn't work, I thought I would try it in situ. I unscrewed the pump at the top in order to pull the plunger out. As I did so diesel was leaking out. I pulled the plunger out and then tried to push the pump back in a bit - more diesel came out. Problem with the pump? Seals gone? I then opened the bleeder valve on the fuel filter and tested it - no problems, it pumped the diesel out nicely. Could the diesel be coming out from where the plunger screws into the cylinder? I have screwed it in tight but maybe there is still a leak there? I'm wondering whether it could also be leaking from where the 'pump cylinder' joins the main body - there is a seal there. Or, perhaps where the pump joins the engine block - there is an O ring. I have found the cylinder, the seal and the o ring can all be had from my local Toyota dealer. I'm thinking of ordering the new pump, seal and O ring. Any thoughts?

:cheers:Jim

yeah, when mine went it was spurting diesel out the top of the pump when used... try the seals first if you don't mind fiddling....

Quick question,

someone here posted that if you have a leak you might feel it sometimes loosing power?

I have the smoke sometimes I can see in headlights behind me at night, and I could have sworn one day it did not do it, and seemed slower.

I am selling the truck and I want to make sure I have it all fixed before that.

Any hints on how to check for the leaks? the primer did leak a bit when I changed the
fuel filter, Where can I get me one of those here in the states?

Oh yeah BUY MY TRUCK!!!

when my leaks were present (one in the injector line, one in the primer pump) i'd lose power considerably at points, while at other times it ran normally... another thing that can do this is junk in your fuel tank partially blocking the fuel lines... i've had that too. i don't know if there is a pressure tester for diesel systems.

you could make one i think, or you could look for wet patches, maybe replace your primer pump if it loses stuff... and if you still have the problem (or are bored one day) drain and clean out your fuel tank. sounds like you have either a partial blockage, or a leak, as the smoke is a sign of unburnt fuel, and if there is no smoke, it means there probably is less fuel than usual.

try toyota for a primer pump, or a parts store... but if US parts stores are no help, try australian parts stores and see if they'll ship... or something like SOR or something... i don't know, i'm in Australia

Just to conclude this thread.. I fitted the new primer pump and the leak is cured. Thanks for the input and suggestions everybody..

Hi I'm in Australia too. Got problems with the priming pump; other than Toyota original who else carries them here as well, cause my trusted after market supplier couldn't get them for me. What price at Toyota?

Just ring around or try ebay. Lots of aftermarke available from $10 upwards.
I think roodogspares on ebay carries them.
Wreckers sell them used for $5,that will get you by till your dealer can get them.

Maybe you could ditch that set up all together and use an aftermarket filter and primer attached to the inside of the fender.

I purchased a new Primer off eBay, last week. $50.00 + $10.00 Freight It doesn't have the Water Seperator section, but looking in the Gregories Manual, that's normal.

http://stores.ebay.com.au/ROODOGS-4WD-SPARES is tip top, and I bought through Email, rather than eBay. :)

Reading the entire thread .. noone said nothing about 500 rpm at idle .. little low IMOP .. my 2H adjusted to 600 rpm is a huge diferent. AC to 650 - 680 rpm.

The 2H engine is so touchy with air leaks .. in my experieence if got one, loose a lots of power .. and try to shutdown .. and never start again.

The guys at 4wheel auto sell spiffy all metal version that was usedon the industrial engines... http://www.4wheelauto.com/ I use it and it works great. I think they get them imported FROM autralia...
