Does anyone know how these perform? The specs look good as far as horse power and torque. How does this turbo diesel fair mileage wise and economy wise? Does it produce plenty of power with high miles per gallon?

Hi Kybishop! Well, you're talking about the HJ61!

I'ev got one as my DD! They're nice, i drive faster than most of the small cars over here! And that's on teh alpine roads! (in france where the average car is 1.6l and 80hp) Off road, they need good tyres, and it might be worth looking for one with original lockers. There's no power or torque problem. Tcases and gearboxes are somewhat fragile, over 250000km plan on a rebuild in the near future if you drive a tad violently! The suspension is like all leaf springed toys, rough! But they're extremely spacious! Fun to drive, and you can go far. If well looked after they can go easily over 500000km!
If you're looking to import an euro one, i might have one for you (3000 euros in Italy) For sure there's work to do on it at this price, but it's well worth it, when you think a good condition one over here costs about 10000 euros!
Best regards.

Max.

it could be a hj60 hj61 or Hj62...........just depends on the year.

or an aftermarket turbo'd 2H...

here are some numbers for the AXT kit on a 2H from AXT's site

Hi everybody!

Landpimp, if it's an euro turbo diesel, can't be anything but a HJ61, hj60 were diesels! and HJ62 either haven't existed or have only been sold in Japan!

Best regards.

Max.

When I bought my HJ60 and drove it home to Seattle I was getting around 26 mpg.

That was with a wornout engine too.

How do you guys get them into the US, I here the importation is nearly impossible? I ask because I really really want one, I have had lots of FJ's but it has been a dream of mine to get an HJ60. If you don't want to put the answer here you can PM me. Is there a loop hole or rule to bend a little, that mileage sounds dreamy.
Thanks.

HJ60's are eligible for inport legally.

Because the HJ60's were sold for the Canadian market, they meet all of the US regulations (EPA, DOT). Therefore, its just a matter of jumping through the hoops. I would suggest using a registered importer (RI), they charge for processing fees but they really make the process easy. Using an RI will probably reduce the amount of time you spend at the boarder trying to get cleared. I was there maybe 15 minutes, and the officials didn't even look at the cruiser.

I have heard about some problems about getting them registered in some states. You can contact your local DMV to see what will need to be done for registration. Other than that, its just a matter of shippment. Feel free to PM or email me with any more q's, I went through this last December with mine.

Ole VT is correct. I bought mine from somebody who had already imported her.

Ha ha ha. I missed out on all that good stuff!

Hi everybody!

Guys, a tad off topic, but what carriers/shippers do you use when you buy a foreign car? Because i've had to ship heavy weight items after ebay sales to the us and other countries, and found that real difficult to find the right people to talk with! French freight companies don't want to deal with individuals, even self employed!

Best regards.

Max.

If you're shipping from Europe, try Walenius-Wilhelmson. My company has shipped tons of boats through these guys and they are (comparatively) easy to deal with.

well, not to dredge up a 4-year old thread, but there's no such thing as a (factory) HJ62.

That's right ! 62 is only FJ the petrol version of HJ61.

There is also no such thing as a HJ60 turbo unless it's home-made.

Only J6 to ever have a factory turbo is the HJ61...

Hehe... What page did you find this in Tofu? Pretty old stuff... I guess the guy who asked the question is all grown up now:hhmm::grinpimp:
